Dreams carrying into reality??

this is a story/question.

i just found this site tonight through 'stumbleupon' and am very interested/excited about attempting lucid dreaming. while reading the frontend of the site i recalled something that happened to me when i was about 15 years old (10 years ago). this is what i remember...

before i went to sleep, i was reading a hardy boys book in bed. once asleep i had an EXTREMELY vivid dream about it. i dont remember the actual dream all that well (it isnt that important, just what happened after the dream is). i will describe it as best i can.

i was with, or one of, the hardy boys. we were solving a mystery. we had found out 'whodunit' and i think, after confronting this person, we were trapped by them somehow. in a cave, or in a basement, something. all i remember was we were in danger.

at this point in the dream i woke up. i REALLY had to go to the bathroom. i went down the hall to the restroom and did my business. however, the dream kept going, at least it wanted to keep going. i can remember my mind was almost "tripping". i was in the restroom, rocking back and forth, in fear for my life. the whole time thinking i needed to come up with a way to escape, but i was kind of stuck in a loop. i couldnt seem to comprehend what i needed to escape from. it was like the dream was just holding onto my brain. i went back to my bedroom and lay back down. i was unable to go back to sleep for probably 30 minutes before i finally snapped out of it and realized what was "real" and then i laughed at myself. i went back to sleep and the dream never returned.

i probably did a poor job explaining what i went through. im not really sure what happened. i just know that i was awake, i knew i was awake. i dont think i really knew that my dream was a dream though. even though i woke from it into my own bedroom and got up and walked around in my house. i wasnt sleep walking. it was like even though i was awake and conscious, i wasnt really awake. it was strange to say the least.

does anyone know anything about this kind of thing? is it something that can happen when messing with lucid dreams?

lemme know what you think or if you have had anything similar happen to you.

thx
brad

Welcome to the forum!

Sounds alot like a FA (false awakening) to me. When you wake up in a dream however you are still dreaming. The can seem very real and seem almost as if you are awake with only subtle differences. This is where reality checks come handy as they can help you to realise you are dreaming!

Hope this helps.

Not quite. It happens sometimes on the verge of waking and dreaming that our mind confuses the two realities and takes the dreaming memories into the 'real' world. It happened to me at least twice.

I agree with neavo 100%, it sounds like the classic False Awakening, they can be a pain in the butt to spot right away, but if you get them often, then they are lucid dreams just waiting to be taken advantage of!

Welcome to Dream Views by the way!

Well, my first thought was false awakening, as well. But I do agree with Kacper about our minds confusing the two realities.

I've had it happen several times, where it takes me a couple of minutes, after waking, to "snap out of it". I've had dreams where my children or husband die, or someone was breaking into my home, and the intense fear stayed with me upon waking. It didn't last quite as long as yours, but usually, within minutes, I realize it was only a dream.

I have dreams that seem to keep going even after my alarm clock goes off, and I will feel like I need to continue doing whatever it was I was doing in the dream, but then I snap out of it. I guess yours just lasted longer. I think you were probaby just disoriented or something, as you were probably still half asleep when getting out of bed.
