      I am new!

      Hi everyone.

I am new here today I came accross this site whilst surfing the net for information on what I thought was a sleep dissorder that I have had for as long as I can remember, and that's a long time because I am nearly 35!

I don't know much on the subject other than that I thought I was going mad because my sleeping experiences are getting worse and quiet scary and would like any advice at all if poss if any of you have experienced anything like what I do.

All my sleeping life I have had the ability to control my dreams and just by reading this forum tonight I have realised this has a name! At least I am not the only one...strangely makes me feel better knowing I am not alone LOL.

Every night whilst dreaming I become aware that I am dreaming. Sometimes I can control the dream and sometimes not, but I am still aware that I am dreaming. Some dreams are normal and nothing strange like just going about my normal activities yet others are really weird and wacky and some terrifying. And it is the terrifying ones that I am having reoccurant problems with that are getting worse and I do not know what it is.

Basically I fall asleep really easily always have done. Just as soon as I fall asleep I am aware I am dreaming and become paralysed. I hear really loud buzzing sounds and hyper sensitivity to all the senses. Then I start to see a sequence of events. They are usualy doom and gloom. The strange thing is that within 2 days of these types of dreams the dreams actually become real. They are like premonitions that always come true if the dream starts with the buzzing and paralysis. Now I am a sceptic and do not believe in paranormal and physic stuff but just can't explain these coincidences. I usually see the front page of newspapers with the pictures of something or someone and the headline, and give or take a few slight discrepancies they come true.

Other types of my weird state of dreams that are rteally freaking me out are that I wake whilst the dream still continues and am paralysed. I can stil har sounds and smells but no sight of what is going on. So it is like I am in bed with my eyes open and everything looks normal but I can feel and hear the dream in my bedroom all around me. For about 30 sconds I can't move or make a sound. This gradually wears off to a point I can shout to my husband to wake me up. As soon as he shakes me awake all of the sensations dissapear and I go back to sleep. This happens almost every night lately.

It is really scaring me and I have never heard of this happening to anyone else. My husband gets freaked out by it sometimes because it is just so surreal.

My question is: am I going mad or does this happen to anyone else and what can I do to make it go away.

One other experience happened when I was a teenager. I was asleep dreaming when I felt I had come out of my body (again I don't believe I really came out of my body). I look down and see myself sleeping. I get scared because it seemed too real, then I floated extremely fast (facing downward) through the cieling and into space loking down at the earth on the light side. I get scared and will myself back. Just as I am slowing down above my street I see a red car and take note of the 1st few digits of the number plate. I jolt back into my body and wake up gasping and in total fear. The next morning I was on my way to work and saw for real the red car, and the first few digs of the plate are the same as my dream.

Since no-one wants to share the love (until now), I decided to answer.

It's not so uncommon as you might think (referring to the pre-cog); just not widely talked about outside of BD (Beyond Dreaming) or whatever sub-forum they talk about it on nowadays.

Seeing as you've asked for how to make "it" go away and you don't really know what "it" is, I'd suggest you consider what you believe you are going through first.
If you don't believe you've done anything (consciously) to make "it" happen then you might like to assume it is natural.

Thus, you may consider how to enhance "it" to 'use' it to your benefit; or change yourself to increase your comfort whilst it may be happening.

Approaching "it" with an egoistic attitude whilst asleep may prove useful, as doubt is usually what manifests fears/barriers etc.

All in all, you might like to check out our Beyond Dreaming section (even though you may find it a bit lacking in some areas). Here's the link to help you get started:

You merely have to change your point of view slightly, and then that glass will sparkle when it reflects the light.

Your what some call a "Natural Lucid Dreamer." For people who want to achieve lucid dreaming, you are lucky. You shouldn't look at it as a bad thing. Since you are this is probably why you are getting bad experiences.

Becoming aware is known as lucid dreaming. If you ever watched the Matrix you can view lucid dreaming like that. You are Neo. You can control anything. It's how much you believe you can control it. Through practice your control over the dream will increase. If you are have terrifying experiences you need to just remember it is just a dream and nothing can hurt you. The terrifying thing in your dream only exists because you allow it to.

This is called Sleep Paralysis. It happens to EVERYONE living shortly before they go to sleep and shortly before they wake up. Most people aren't aware when it happens. A lot of people here experience this due to the techniques they use to achieve lucid dreaming.

It can be scary, but what you have to remember it is not real. I’ve experienced almost 4 out of the 7 times I tried using my own technique. I mostly fail at entering a lucid dream, though.

When you are in SP you will feel strange, may see, may hear, and may feel presences in the room. You just have to remember none of it is real. Your body is transitioning itself into a sleep mode. Don’t let it scare you. If you do, the scary experiences will only get worse.

I am not the person who believes in paranormal activity or anything discussed in the Beyond Dreaming forum. I feel it’s an easy answer to people who just cannot explain things for themselves.

I believe you are just putting so much thought into this that you are looking for these coincidences. It’s all in your head. If you ever seen the movie “The Number 23” it explains what Im saying. The guy sees the number 23 everywhere. Whether it be numbers that add up to it, subtract to it, multiple to it, etc. The thing is, he is looking for that. You can create any kind of strange coincidence if you look hard enough for it.

Just need to remember it is a normal thing the body is doing. Nothing can happen to you. Think of it as, "I am lucky. Most people cannot do what I can do so easily."

You are not going crazy. You are letting this scare you. You are creating your own terrifying experiences. As for stopping it, I would tell you "Why would you want to do that?" Learn to take control and have fun with it. If you really want to stop it, see a doctor and tell him you become aware during Sleep Paralysis. He probably will give you some sleeping pills or something.

Again you are letting these things scare you. I cannot explain the red car license plate without knowing you and your daily routine. You could have seen it before and forgot, it could be a coincidence; you could be remembering the dream wrong, etc. There are many explanations that I cannot give you without knowing you.

      Welcome to Dream Views.

It sounds to me like you have an amazing gift. And I'm pretty jealous of your ability to be Lucid every night. Your definitely a natural LDer.

      Good Luck!

      Welcome to Dreamviews.
It sounds like you've got some good advice from everyone already. I think that if you read around, you will find other people with Sleep Paralysis experiences similar to yours. You're definitely not going crazy. Sleep Paralysis is what initially got me interested in Lucid Dreaming also.

I think a lot of people will be jealous if you're getting LDs naturally. I'm interested to hear what your secret is.

Have you checked out the section on the Task of The Month?

There are some fun suggestions on what to do once you are lucid. Maybe having a fun goal in mind will make your lucids something to look forward to, not be scared of.
