A Newbie Comes with a raygun!

Hello, my name is Jeff_ray, an intended pun related to rayguns.

I have only recently heard about lucid dreaming. If you wish, here's a story about it:

"I am on a computer school, looking through a forum on my free time. As I read about a topic on dreams related to the game the forum was based on, I saw the link to this place. I clicked it and looked. From then on, I started to get hype on lucid dreaming, and how it seems like it can be used as an 'alternative reality' in which I could pretty much do all of what I ever wished to do.

Through the afternoon classes of English and Maths, the hype only got bigger. I then went home to continue checking the subject. I then looked at many tutorials and the forums. I then decided to register, in order to share future experiences and ask help related to this godsent ability to accomplish my biggest dreams. It may seem like a tough process, just like the last level of a tough game, but there's always hope lying in the end of the tunnel to lucid dreaming."

      Alright, so that's quite it.

It would quite help to get a step-by-step guide on how to do the Dream Recall part, with helpful hints as to not forget dreams.

I might start this thing tonight, maybe tommorow, to let my body calm a bit down before starting (knowing how much hype I got from the news).

Enough with the long stuff, Hi!

Wow! Nice story behind how you found out about Lucid Dreaming!

Good look for when you do Dream Recall too. Don't worry about it either, it's dead easy!

Easier to type up on a computer too, if you write down keywords on a piece of paper, maybe lots...

Welcome to DV! Hope you enjoy it.

      Welcome to Dream Views, Jeff_Ray

Go ahead and try tonight. Soemtimes the excitement and confidence can be enough to land you a lucid dream.

You're on the right track by starting with improving your dream recall. There are a lot of good tips in the Tutorials section
      http://dreamviews.com/community/forumdisplay.php?f=25
There's even a dream recall tutorial.

It sounds like you've already been looking around, but if you haven't had the chance, check out the Quick Start Guide
      http://dreamviews.com/community/showthread.php?t=36723

A couple quick hints on improving your dream recall:
      1) Right before you fall asleep at night, tell yourself you will wake up after every dream and remember it.
      2) Keep a pen and paper next to your bed so you can jot down notes on the dreams.
      3) As soon as you wake up, dont do anything until you try to remember your last dream. Don't move, don't even open your eyes. Just try to remember something. Anything at all.

Don't be shy about asking questions. People here love to give advice

This may seem like an useless question, but did anyone ever do things that were related to video games? Because I don't quite want to get my hopes up on doing things that can't be achieved by the lucid masters...

You bet. I think a lot of people get their inspiration from video games and movies. You can do anything you can imagine. What did you have in mind?

And, what game had lucid dreaming in it? Was it Titan Quest?

Well, I was thinking about going in video game worlds and maybe interact with a game's storyline, and maybe even go squish goombas and koopas in the Mario world. XD

But since it's possible, I've got my hopes up.

However, I hope that the school won't interfere with my dream recall schedule... mostly because my mom wakes me up around 6:00AM, and I sleep relatively late, even on weekdays. Do you suggest I try to go to bed earlier on weekdays?

I was hoping to find out the same thing. Someone told me a while back that there was lucid dreaming in a game called Titan Quest. I guess this is what Wikipedia is for...

Well, it's mostly based on the fact that my dad brings me to school, and has work at around 7:50AM, so we have to leave early. I might try to sleep earlier, though.

      Try it.

So, if everything goes well, how much time should it take for me to get through the Dream Recall process?

      How did I miss this?

      Dream Mastery
Fools have been known to mock the masters of Dream. Most of those fools are dead now. Not only is a Seer capable of conjuring creatures of nightmare to haunt, distract, and ultimately destroy his enemies, but his powers form the basis of a strong argument that all of reality is, in fact, a dream. If so, then to master dreams is to master reality itself.

      Lucid Dream - Passive
Increased conscious control over your dream state, enhances abilities that derive power from the dream world.

      Nice, nice, nice!

      Last questions:

-Is it possible to go through a dream, but then, when we realize that we are in a dream, and go in a totally different storyline that isn't related to the original dream whatsoever?
-Are there side effects or risks with Lucid Dreaming?

I have an idea of what I should use for a journal. I just gotta find a pencil now. Also, I feel it's best for me to wait 'till tommorow before I start using my journal... what do you think?

Sorry for Double Post, but could it be possible to get an answer to my last two questions?

Because I really don't quite want to do LD if there are dangerous risks to take...

      - No, infact, going through with the dream storyline helps get better lucidity.

      - Not if you stick with basic Lucid Dreaming, I've heard there's risks with OBE's and such, but it's good to stay with Lucid Dreaming if you're new to it. If you really want to play it naturally, I suggest a DILD. As trying WILD and WBTB ealy on in "the game" can keep you up for hours if you're not used to it. To give out some revision. A DILD includes the following: Keeping a Dream Journal, eating Lucid Foods, drinking Lucid Drinks, and Reality Checking.

So, since we can't change the storyline, is there a way to increase our chances that we go through a desired storyline during a dream?

      Another double post.

I try to control my impatience, but it's getting a little dull to not be answered...

Also, one question never got answered:

"If everything goes well, how long should the Dream Journal process take?"

Sorry, Jeff. Not ignoring you, I was just out of town for the weekend.

There's nothing dangerous about lucid dreaming. Once you get into the swing of it, it doesn't really interfere with your sleep much at all. When you're in the dream, don't worry about it being dangerous. It feels real, but its definitely not. I've been killed in dreams more times than I can count, and there's no danger. In fact, check out last month's task of the month
      http://www.dreamviews.com/community/...ad.php?t=53880
The task was to prove you are indestructable.

You can change the dream's storyline. For some people, the shock of becoming lucid makes the dream sort of pause, and they can decide what to do next. Check out some dream control tutorials if you want to get an idea, but its different for everyone. You can always walk through a mirror to change scenes, open a door and expect it to lead where you want to go, spin in place until you teleport to where you want to be, jump into a television set or painting, ect.

Dream Journaling does not take too long. If you keep at it, you should have pretty good recall within a couple days or a week. If you are getting a dream or two a night, you are doing great.

Before you go to sleep every night, tell yourself that you will wake up after every dream cycle and write down your dream. If you do this, you can remember dreams from the beginning of the night easier, and you will rack up a ton more dreams. You'll be surprised at how quickly your journal fills up.

Remember, the non-lucid dreams are almost as fun as the lucid ones, so enjoy the journaling. Its like going to a free movie every night.

Well, will waking up in the middle of night make me more tired?

Everyone wakes up nomrally multiple times throughout the night, after each REM period. Most people never remember it because you are only awake for a second or two, maybe roll over, then you fall right back asleep and forget it ever happened.

All you have to do is tell yourself before bed that you will write down your dream during these brief awakenings. It only takes a minute .

Yes, but being tired doesn't always make LD's happen. The reason we do it is because after 6+ hours of sleeping you enter a sleeping stage called REM(Rapid Eye Movement) During this stage is when you dream.

One of the greatest things about LD'ing is that you can do it you whole life, and it aint tough to do. (Practice that is)

No. You have 5 stages of sleeping, and you go through multiple REM stages throughout the night, and they get longer after each cycle. Plus, you dream and can lucid dream in EVERY stage, but REM dreams are much more vivid and realistic. Everything is about awareness. I'm new and I know that...
