      Reality checks

Hey I'm a noob, sorry ha

I'm wondering, with daily reality checks do you just do yours anytime or only when specific things happen?

It just seems a bit weird when I'm sitting there watching TV and I suddenly go "Okay.. am I really watching tv? Yes? You sure? Okay."

Anything I'm supposed to get that I'm not getting?

I only do them when I notice something strange, but when I started out I did them all the time and it really helped.

      It's different for everyone.

I do them all the time. Mostly so that I will remember to do it when I'm wondering If I'm dreaming in a dream. Once in a while I will do it randomly in a dream. But most of the time I notice something odd first by watching for dreamsigns all day.

me too. I just search for dreamsigns all day. When I see a dreamsign I try and fit it into a ds category, then sometimes do a rc. I try and think like I'm in the dream and would I need one or not.

      Hey CJ.

When you Reality Check, you're asking yourself (in your head or not) if you're dreaming or not. This is because you've noticed something impossible and you think Reality Checking will certainly tell you.

So it can pretty much only be defined as that if it's certain it will check if you're dreaming for certain. Like the old hand Reality Check: You look at your hands, the thing is, the brain can't generate hands properly in dreams so it's always abnormal, and because of the fact it can't be normal, it will always look weird in a dream. This is what you're looking for, if it's weird, so it's a Reality Check. Because it's a good way of forcing the answer to the question if you're dreaming, it's a good Reality Check!

Don't worry, you're not a noob, we were all unknowledgable once.

Also, welcome to the forum! Feel free to ask anyway questions here.

I've been wondering about RC's as well, any tips for beginners on how to get into the habit of doing them more often? I do them any time I think about dreaming, but I don't think of dreaming that much during the day like I should.

      RC

      Hi guys,

Since joining up I have been giving the reality check of looking at my hands ago.

The problem is, a couple of nights ago I was dreaming and in my dream something occured that made me wonder whether I was dreaming. I then did the RC of checking my hands and as clear as day remember thinking thats right, I guess not and then just went on with what I was doing in the dream as if it was reality.

Is it worth doing a different type of RC, or something more questioning ?

      maybe try a more in-depth hand-reality check.
      count your fingers. Normal number?
can you even focus on your hand properly?
Can you pass your finger through?

one of these should fail. But my personal favourite is a digital watch RC....and its easy and discreet.

I did the exact same thing last night but with the finger through the wall check. The light switch in the bathroom didnt work so I tried putting my finger through the wall (a check Ive did with success before) and it wouldnt go through. I even tried several times since the light switch not working was a great chance. Unfortunately I didnt come lucid but became mad at my self after waking up from a battle with a large cockroach in the same bathroom a few minutes later.

Damn, it was a dream.....soooo real. I even used the bathroom, and while using it I figured it cant be a dream because I feel I dont have to go anymore after peeing.

Reality checks for me works only when there is a trigger, a light failing. Doing them randomely has no effect. So you would have a higher chance of doing it in the dream if you associate the check with a trigger that suggests you may be dreaming.
