      RC idea

hey dreamers, i just had a cool idea that i was gonna keep to myself but i'll share it with our community since everyone is nice.

I have a RC idea. I was thinking of going to sleep with a beanie on and to see if i could recognise it on my head in my dreams.(2 become lucid) or something to that extent.. do you think this would work? .any advice welcome....

I dont see how this is a reality check. Anything could happen in a dream..the beanie could be on...or you could jsut not notice that it should be on. There's already some good RC's that are non-fallable. Maybe Im not understanding it?

      RC Dumb idea i guess

SORRY FOR ALL THE ANNOYING NEWBIE QUESTIONS I ASK.!!!!!!!

yeh, now that i have had nearly a day to think about it, i could just be dreaming i had the beanie on..and many other things... sorry... i just dont quite understand when someone says "Do a reality check" i know they mean to see if im dreaming but "How do i do a reality check?" in waking life? i've read them all but cant grasp on how to actually do a reality check. just look in the mirror every hour and say " am i dreaming"
etc , i dunno the only thing i would most likely pick up on is if i was dreaming and i checked me wallet and i had lotsa money i would KNOW i was dreaming.
I CANT WAIT TO GO TO SLEEP AT NIGHT......

but your wallet mght not have lots of money in it. Try holding your nose closed and try breathing in through it. That one always works when you're dreaming.

      ok, i'll work on it

ok, i will try and get into the habit of doing it (awake) as a Reality check.
so do i just pinch my nose and try and breath,???????????/and if i cant breath then im not dreaming????????????? is that how i do it? so i get into the habit, that i end up doing it in my dream(where i should be able to breath and realize im dreaming and become lucid???)

The most common, and in my opinion the best reality check, is to look at a piece of text, look away for a second, and then look back at it. If the text changes in any way, you know you're dreaming. You also might want to try and consciously change the text. The reason why the text would change is because the part of your brain responsible for reading is pretty much shut off. The idea behind a reality check is to do something that would show something is wrong with your current reality, proving that you are in a dream. When you dry and breathe while holding your nose closed, I am fairly sure that you would still be able breathe.

That would look weird if you do it in front of people if you are not dreaming. So just watch out for that.

Yeh, i am gonna try find one that works for me....so far the mirror check sounds good, but i dont think i'd pick up on it, coz its nothing out of the ordinary, but i keep having dreams, where i SHOULD be able to notice im dreaming but I dont..like breathing underwater at a smimming pool..!!!

A good one to do is the finger through your hand because you can do it in real life and ppl wont think your going a bit crazy like with the breathing one :-)

Another thing about RC is to get a very strong feeling about them. When doing them do them very seriously, every time, and try to imagine, almost convince yourself over the possibility thay you may lie in bed right when you do the RC. If not it may become an habit not only to do the RC, but to believe when doing RC that youre in waking life.
