      Greetings Everyone!

Hi, I've browsed this great website for a while but just recently joined up. I've known about lucid dreaming for years now and I've recently decided to treat it as a discipline rather than a passing note of interest. I have a few questions however that hopefully you all can shed some light on.

Currently I'm working on recall, which brings me to my first question. Just how much/how vividly is one generally supposed to recall? For a few days now I've been periodically waking myself up in REM cycles 2 or 3 times a night and keeping a detailed journal. I remember multiple dreams a night now but it seems a lot of detail is left out. I'm only remembering the important parts, its all very discontinuous. Its like my memory of the dream is swiss cheese, sudden pitfalls between each event. Is this normal of dream recall? Or should the memories be as detailed and vivid as real life before I really attempt becoming lucid? Maybe it needs more work...

Also there's a bit of confusion when it comes to dreamsigns. From what I've read it seems I need to find some common theme that occurs in dreamsigns. However all of them seem to be very different. Should I bring them up into a broader theme (context, form, etc.) and just leave it at that? Or should I just wait it out and record more dreams until a recognizable physical pattern comes along?

Thanks all, and good luck with your own experiences.

You could have a look at other people's dream journals on this forum to get an idea what other people do.

I think you just record as much as you can and with practice it will get better.

I have learned you can have off days too. Especially if you're experimenting with sleep patterns and/or induction techniques.

As for your dream signs you could do what I do. Make a spreadsheet. I divided mine into lists like animals, places, weapons, dream characters, colours, emotions etc.

Once you've headed up your spreadsheet just start filling in the lists after you record each dream.

When I did this I noticed I dream about my dogs (animal list) and my parents (dream character list) a lot. I also notice I dream about toilets (places list) a lot.

You might notice you have common elements to your dreams too.

I often have other lucids that I forget or that I don't record for whatever reason.

Sounds good, guess I'm just impatient. I'll keep working at it and see where it goes. Oh and thanks for the spreadsheet idea, I think that one's gonna be useful.

One other thing I forgot to mention however, often times in dreams I'll be with someone I'm nearly positive I know, but forget who they are when I wake up. I can't seem to remember faces. I have in the past, but recently it just hasn't been happening (save a remote few cases). Could anyone help me out with an explanation for this?
