      Smile hello

hi i've only just started reading about lucid dreaming and i don't know much about it but i think i may have had one a while back without knowing anything at all about it.

it was one of the strangest dreams i've had and it was quite a long time ago but i still remember it enough. i was running down some long, never-ending dirt road in what i guess was a desert. but on my left side, running as long as the dirt road i was on, was a brick wall that was too tall to climb or see past. i kept running down the road for a long time until i somehow realised i was in a dream. i looked down at my hands then turned and put them up against the wall in front of me. Then, because i was scared and wanted to get out of it, i just put all my effort into opening my eyes quickly and straight away i awoke.

meh. like i said. i don't know much about this kind of stuff. but i want to learn, and i want to know if what i had was a lucid dream or something else

You say you realised you were dreaming and so yes it was a Lucid Dream. Lucid Dreaming is becoming aware that you are dreaming within your dream, well unless you go straight into the Lucid awake using a technique, yours was an everyday DILD it seems

Well I am sure you can learn alot on Dream Views about how to have a lot more Lucid Dreams and I am sure someone will be along shortly to give you alot of links to various helpful areas of the forum

      Have Fun

Oh ok. thanks heaps for the reply.

i've been reading constantly for the last 3 hours about lucids and i think i'm going to keep researching this and possibly start a dream journal.

Funny how i actually got onto this. started with reading the bill hicks biography (who used hallucinogenic drugs to achieve OBE). spent an hour or so on websites about that - and meditation, then got onto astral projection. Then while scanning over something on wikipedia i noticed dream forms in which you know you're dreaming, which made me remember mine.

Just a quick question, and i know i could probably find it if i went through all the forums, but how long would it take for someone new to get reasonably well at lucid dreaming?

      No Problem,

I would say a Dream Journal is a must really - it doesn't have to be on DV but you should record all your dreams as it will help you to acheive Lucidity. You could read about the topic of Lucid Dreaming for ages - there is a lot of stuff about!

Well there isn't a set time for people to get good at Lucid Dreaming - I think that it will differ greatly from person to person. I have been working on it for over 2 years now and I have had 25 Lucids and my Lucid Frequency is getting up to around twice per month! But I havn't been as dedicated as many although I am working on it harder now. Some people can get their first lucid within days of thinking that it is possible and some can take years. So I guess you will have to give it a go and see how it works out for you.
I have only had Lucids mainly from DILDs so to get better more frequent results perhaps mastering a proper technique would be a good idea, if you could master WILD you would be laughing (but it can be a big challenge!)

      Good Luck!

      Welcome to Dream Views, roryspro.

I know how you feel, just stumbling onto lucid dreaming. Its weird that its such an amazing thing, available to everybody for free, yet not that many people know about it. Lucid dreaming and OBE are related pretty closely some would say they are the same thinig, I'm not convinced. Either way, you will probably find similarities in the induction techniques for both.

It sounds like you've already had a chance to look around. If you havent already, check out the Tutorials Section:

You can also read other people's experiences, or start your own journal in the Dream Journal section:

And don't forget about the search tool. Its a little touchy, but it can bring up some awesome older threads.

If you have any questions, ask away, or feel free to PM a Dream Guide (The people with green names)
