How do I exploit sleep paralysis?

As a newbie I'm wondering how can I exploit being conscious during sleep paralysis. I'd love any advice or links. (I've been distracted lately and haphazardly hitting the forums, so I've likely missed obvious threads)

Up until recently, not knowing what it was I've been terrified of sleep paralysis. Last night I experienced it again but didn't fight it. It was a peculiar experience but kind of cool; initially it felt like when you really have to sneeze but for my entire body - the suffocating sensation I usually get wasn't really prevalent now I've no fear of it.

I was amazed how hard it was to maintain when normally I fight it like crazy. I also read somewhere about creating a false perception of weight, movement and orientation, I'm pretty good at headstands but I've always just done it for fun. I find my body surrenders to sleep quicker when I "fly/fall" around, but I don't know the implications of doing it during SP.

      Thanks

When I naturally get into that state, I close my eyes and start imagining. and I am wherever I want to be, within seconds!

Excellent! When you do are you lucid? Or do you get sucked into dream consciousness?

Sleep paralysis is definitly exploitable, use your imagination like JollyRoger said, also use tactile sensations such as trying to feel your body move in certain ways, I used to imagine rolling around feeling the changes in gravity soo I would actually become that imaginary body and be in a dream, it's worked many many times.

So I can essentially look at SP as an airport waiting lounge for dreams. It's pretty common for me so that's good news.

Do you have any tips on maintaining SP? I think I read staying calm with a sort of unforced focus was best, or am I spouting bs?

[Edit: On an unrelated note, the little box for my posts seems pretty big even if I do a short post - there's a load of white space under this. Not sure why]
[Edit Edit: Never mind, it's all the crud under my avatar]

Listen, I experience the same thing sporadically at times. I don't know when it will happen, but when it does the dream is either precognitive, and I experience precog. dreams even without paralysis. However, I am new to this site too. Please check out the dream I had the other day. My paralysis occurs when I try to wake up (and now I know it is happening to me so I am probably in some semi-conscious state) and I can't move my legs, arms, mouth, face or anything. However I have never felt suffocated. Check out my dream I had the other morning:

I dreamed I was walking, and a rather large black bird flew over my head. Then, I was lying on the sofa (where I actually fell asleep in the first place, kind of like I could see myself sleeping and I was trying to wake up and move my arms, but I could not seem to do it) and another pretty and average size blue bird came through the ceiling. I kept trying to move my arm, but all I saw was this opalescent form of my arm (kind of like my spirit) coming out and then I felt my spirit fly up to the roof. Then I kept trying to come out of my body and break out of the roof but I was never successful. Then I wanted to wake up before my husband left the house, so I kept trying to move my body but couldn't. I felt there was a red bird near and I was a little worried about it being the opposite of what I felt was the intent of the blue bird. Finally my mind shifted into another dream in which my husband and I escaped from a tornado to an underground parking lot with a shopping mall. After, I awoke from the dream, I was glad to feel my arms and legs move. My husband gave me a kiss, and said was going mountain bike riding. I did not want to interrupt his plans, and he is normally not too into dreams, so I did not tell him about the experience that just occurred.

I never get paralysis when I wake up, it's only when I'm trying to get to sleep. You say it's when you try to wake up so I assume you're lucid; I've read about people being able to feel their real body lying in bed as well as their dream body when they're LDing, and as you're always paralysed when you sleep anyway, I imagine it was two conflicting sensations in a dream where you're conscious of both realities. But that's only conjecture, I don't know enough about sleep mechanisms.

Not sure if you're talking about real life precognition but I couldn't comment.

Yeah I too get into SP while trying to fall asleep. usually I will almost doze off and something will just wake me and I'll be lying there completely paralyzed. I used to freak out because of this and fight until I broke free. but one night it happened to me and I broke free then while trying to go back to sleep it happened again so I said "screw I'll close my eyes and wake up like in the morning" and as soon as I closed my eyes an utterly amazing world was built around me, and I was in complete shock. that was my first Lucid Dream and the most memorable!
