      death-like state

      everybody, hello.

I've been lucid a handfull of times, but most of the time- when I get to the threshold- I get the distinct impression that I'm dead. I'm unaware of anything outside of my current state (it's like a void and I have the sense of freedom but no idea what to do with it). I recoil, and it's enough to wake me up.

Does anybody else get this, too?

That state sounds familiar, however, it would help if you could give us some more information about it. Does it's happen normally co-incide with something, such as exhaustion? Also, a better description of what you feel and think during it would help. Other than that, I think I may have experienced something similar to that a couple of times before.

It happens when I realize that my environment is self generated. My consciousness while sleeping hasn't related much to my waking self, so instead of being like, "i must be dreaming", "im like "oh, I really am all alone here." . . . not even having the idea of dreams.

and the world drops out beneath me

then I recoil and wake up.

I think that this is the same state I normally go into before I fall asleep in the living room of my house. Someone will be playing on the Xbox, so I won't be able to fall completely asleep, but I'm too far asleep to notice anything going on around me. I'll usually spend an hour and a half in that state like it's five minutes.

I've had a non-lucid dream before that it was the end of the world, and there was a huge nukular explosion, and I knew it was going to kill me, and as it hit me, I just started to fade....and it felt so real too....and just for one split second there was absolutly nothing there, nothing to see, nothing to feel, nothing to even think, my mind was completly and utterly empty of though....in sense....I was, everything was, and nothing was existant, just for one miniscule second....and then I woke up.

UnknownTBeast, that's it. I'd like to keep it together next time this happens to me.
