I'm a newbie too!! I've been trying the WILD technique for a week and I've had 2 lucid dreams and 2 OBEs!! Basically you sleep for 6 hours, then wake up writing your journal for an hour and go back to bed. Stay relaxed and wake until you get into sleep paralysis,which is scary but absolutely normal. Then you can either try OBE or lucid dream. You are only wasting about 8 hours of bed time(6+1+15min relax+45 min lucid dream).
To gain lucidity, you just spin on your feet once you have gained control. Or you can try to take a memory course in real life. Meditation helps a lot too.
