      Making Dreams Realistic

      Hello Everyone,

I am a newbie to lucid dreaming and have not had one yet. However, I have started to keep a dream journal. The problem with my dreams is that most of them are vague, confusing, blurry and unrealistic. Is there any way to make my dreams more vivid and realistic? Some of my friends say that their dreams are as realistic as the waking world.

P.S. Once I have attained a Lucid Dream do I still need to keep a dream journal? It seems impractical to have to wake up a lot during the night

I'm a newbie too!! I've been trying the WILD technique for a week and I've had 2 lucid dreams and 2 OBEs!! Basically you sleep for 6 hours, then wake up writing your journal for an hour and go back to bed. Stay relaxed and wake until you get into sleep paralysis, which is scary but absolutely normal. Then you can either try OBE or lucid dream. You are only wasting about 8 hours of bed time(6+1+15min relax+45 min lucid dream).

To gain lucidity, you just spin on your feet once you have gained control. Or you can try to take a memory course in real life. Meditation helps a lot too.

Here is a link the the tutorial on improving dream recall:

Hopefully it will answer all of your questions. If not, feel free to ask. You can even send me a PM if you want. You can find a lot of other helpful tuts in the "tutorial" section.

Pretty much every experienced LDer, those who have worked at it and done it for years, will agree that a dream journal (DJ) is an indispensible part of maintaining lucidity at the highest possible levels. I know when I get lazy about keeping a DJ my dream recall goes down the toilet, and as an effect of that, I have (or probably better put, remember) less lucid dreams (LDs). And the ones I do remember are vague, confusing, and frankly dissapointing. So, sorry. If you are serious about LDing you need to keep some sort of DJ.

Just an idea, you may have an easier time keeping a DJ if you use a voice recorder. You can buy a little tape recorder for under $20. Or there are digital, tape-less kinds, some of which are pretty cheap. Also, if you have an mp3 player it might already have a digital voice recorder in it.

You may only be remembering your dreams as hazy. They are probably vivid, but your memory is hazy. Unless you specifically remember thinking, in the dream, "Man, why is everything so hazy." I get this sometimes in lucid dreams, when I am trying not to wake up. I will know for sure that the dream is hazy because I can judge it realtime.

Always keep a dream journal, it will help keep you motivated for those lucid dreams or else you'll just forget about them and won't have them.

You won't lose any sleep doing this (as long as you can get back to sleep relatively soon). This is what I've read and from my experience.

The hardest part is not just going back to sleep when you wake up and remember something. I was good with that until the last few nights where I've been sleeping too deep, and being too tired to get up enough to jot my thoughts down.
