      Hello

So I'm new, hello everyone, my name is Bonnie.

And well, I heard about this site from a friend, I just discovered tonight that I've been having several WILD dreams over the past few months, and I didn't even know what a lucid dream was till tonight so I feel pretty cool about that, and would like to learn more.. and figure out how to control it.

      So yeah. Hi everyone!

Uhm, yup that's all I have to say so. Take it easy. I'm excited to be here. Off to read more about these dreams I've been having and figuring out more about them.

Welcome! You had a spontaneous WILD? That's pretty cool. How did that happen?

      Well.. more than one actually.

I've actually had one ever night for the past four nights.

I've just been waking myself up before doing anything because it was scaring me really bad because I didn't know what they were.

I don't know how I did it, it just.. happened.

Well it's cool that it comes natural like that. Most of us have to work pretty hard for it. I could see where it would be scary at first, but I'm sure you'll learn to enjoy it.

Yeah I can imagine I will, I won't be scared the next time it happens though now that I know what's going on.

      I'm really excited.

Wow, that's pretty amazing. Hopefully, this is only the beginning.

What have you been doing to induce these? Have you changed anything recently in your sleeping habits?

      No, not really.

I mean, well... they seem more likely to happen when I'm REALLY tired.

Like this past weekend I went to a friends and got an average of 5 to 6 hours of sleep a night. Came home, exhausted, but stayed up till 3am anyway.. then when I tried to fall asleep just.. instant WILD.

Then I caught up on sleep but kept having them..
I didn't have one last night though, (but I didn't sleep at all last nigh so.. that would be the reasoning, haha)

Other than that, I don't think I've changed anything.

      Hey Bonnie,

Welcome. I'm a newbie as well! I joined the forum a couple days ago. This site is a great resource for LD's. Reading the information on this site has help me induce and practice LD's. Also, I'm reading Exploring the World of Lucid Dreaming by LeBerge and Rheingold - paperback for about $10. Many things crossover to this site but it's a good reference to have when you're out and about.

      Best,
      Dwight

Yeah, definitely pick up EWOLD, it is like the lucid dreaming bible. Most of the information you will find online is directly from LaBerge. I always keep an extra copy or two, because I've found I end up giving them all away to friends.

      Hi Bonnie,

I started getting spontaneous WILDs when I was 16 too. Probably for the same reasons you are, because I didn't get enough sleep. Sleep deprivation is most definitely what's causing your LDs.

Interesting, I figured that might be it.

But I've never really... gotten enough sleep.

Because no matter how much or how often I sleep I am ALWAYS tired.
ALWAYS. Has been that way for several years now.

I don't know how much this will help, but I definitely recommending reading this. Unfortunately, I think I'm one who needs 10 hours of sleep and I've only been getting about 8, so it's caught up with me and now I sleep in because I'm so tired.

Do you think so? Due to my schedule I often have to go one day a week with no sleep at all and sleep like a bear the next day. It's usually 10 to 12 hours that goes by in a very fast black flash of nothingness. I wish it were otherwise.

I don't know, this is strange. One of my problems is my parents seem to think that I need to be up before 10 during the week. Which may be true, but if I'm going to bed at 2 or 3 in the morning I don't want to get up... not to mention as this article stated I think I have a good amount of 'sleep debt' that needs to be payed off.

I find it funny how our society thinks of sleep as a luxury, and how we can go without it. I can function without sleep, as I'm sure many people can. I don't remember the last time I felt well rested.

I'll have to try this, and tell my parents to bug off, that I just need a few weeks to get myself on a sleeping schedule, because I have no idea how many hours I need a night.

Well obviously sleep deprivation doesn't cause LDs for most people. But for some of us it does. I've had enough LDs over the years induced by sleep deprivation to know that this is a contributing factor and the scientific facts about sleep back it up.

I've also discovered that I need at least 9 hours of sleep a night to feel rested. I don't always get that so my sleep schedule ends up being really crazy and inconsistent. I'll only get 5 hours several days in a row then sleep for 12 hours when I get the chance. Plus I've taken to taking naps whenever I feel run-down and have the time.
