Hi!

I became interested in pursuing intentional lucid dreaming recently, after several normal dreams that became suddenly and unexpectedly lucid. I had a friend years ago at boarding school who was very interested in lucid dreaming, and because of her I started keeping notes about my dreams, which have always been very detailed, long, and recurring.

Over the past few months, I've had quite a few dreams which ended shortly after realizing that information or observations in my dreams didn't match up with things that I knew to be true in the real world. It's almost never something as glaring as gibberish on signs or being able to walk through walls, but just... things that contradict real life.

Two nights ago, I had a contradiction-type dream that really prompted me to pursue lucid dreaming. Towards the end of a very long dream, I was bitten by a snake. In particular, a kind of cobra, which I am well aware is a venomous family of snakes. In the real world, I know that the bite marks left by venomous snakes look different from bite marks left by nonvenomous snakes. In my dream, I looked down at the bite, and it did not look like the mark left by a venomous snake. I realized immediately that I was dreaming.

The strange part, to me, is that all sorts of impossible and weird things had happened in the dream up to that point, and it was a nitpicky small detail about a bite mark that caused me to realize I was dreaming. So I'm calling myself Snakebite, and trying to be a more observant dreamer.
