      Unintentional Lucid Dreaming

      Hi!

I became interested in pursuing intentional lucid dreaming recently, after several normal dreams that became suddenly and unexpectedly lucid. I had a friend years ago at boarding school who was very interested in lucid dreaming, and because of her I started keeping notes about my dreams, which have always been very detailed, long, and recurring.

Over the past few months, I've had quite a few dreams which ended shortly after realizing that information or observations in my dreams didn't match up with things that I knew to be true in the real world. It's almost never something as glaring as gibberish on signs or being able to walk through walls, but just... things that contradict real life.

Two nights ago, I had a contradiction-type dream that really prompted me to pursue lucid dreaming. Towards the end of a very long dream, I was bitten by a snake. In particular, a kind of cobra, which I am well aware is a venomous family of snakes. In the real world, I know that the bite marks left by venomous snakes look different from bite marks left by nonvenomous snakes. In my dream, I looked down at the bite, and it did not look like the mark left by a venomous snake. I realized immediately that I was dreaming.

The strange part, to me, is that all sorts of impossible and weird things had happened in the dream up to that point, and it was a nitpicky small detail about a bite mark that caused me to realize I was dreaming. So I'm calling myself Snakebite, and trying to be a more observant dreamer.

      Snakebite

You're lucky that you are able to notice things out of place like that. I always seem to get fooled by the most ridiculous things in my dreams. I somehow make up the stupidest explanations for any inconsistencies I notice.

I think, to become a more observant dreamer, it helps to be more observant while awake.

I always do it unintentionally too, fairly random really. I guess some things just strike a nerve somehow and you just think no, that's not right.

      Hi,
      Cool intro..

I wish I could notice strange things as easy as you.

Last night I had Jay Cutler (Mr. Olympia) in my living room with my parents over (who live in Florida) and we were watching his video. I asked him about lucid dreaming and even gave him a book on it I had. I told him how cool it is.

      ..and no dice. kick myself...!

How frustrating. I hate non-lucid dreams about lucid dreaming They seem far too common.
