      Dream Recall questions

Hey guys, I'm pretty new, only found all this out about a week ago and been keeping the DJ for a few nights, but I'm pretty excited about the adventure.

I've always been extremely bad at recalling dreams, but I'm very willing to work at it. Like I said I've started my dream journal, but usually, upon waking i can only remember photo-like frames of a dream, and only one or two pieces of dialogue (If I'm lucky!). I have my DJ right next to my bed and have been waking up approx. 6 hours after sleeping to record a dream, then recording one when i fully wake up. I also try to go to sleep with my thoughts focused on remembering my dreams.

I was just wondering if anyone else who has progressed to lucidity started with such bad recall abilities? And how long did it take you? Also, with practice, are you able to recall your dreams vividly even after being awake for 10 minutes or so? That is, can you recall your previous dreams throughout the day? Like I said i am very willing to work at it, I was just wondering if anyone could give me a timeline of how long it took them. And of course, any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Hey there! Welcome to the forum!

It's great that you're keeping a dream journal. They help out a TON with dream recall. If you remember even a scrap of a dream, record it.

Advice for Dream Recall... hmm... You should go to bed very tired. (like you almost immediately fall asleep) Also, you might want to check this guide I wrote on the Wake Back-to-bed method, which seriously boosts the vividness of your dream and chances at a Lucid Dream.

And also, yeah, sometimes I can recall my dreams during the day, but it usually slips from me.

If you have any questions, feel free to PM me or someone else with a green name. (mine is blue-green, don't be confused )

Don't worry; I don't think recall will affect how often you become lucid, just how often you will remember your lucid dreams!

Anyway, it seems you are on the right track. Keep it up, and your conditioned mind will take the hint and help you remember dreams.

      Hey dude,

I used to be really bad at remembering dreams but I found over time my dreams became more vivid and emotional. I started writing them down after they began to get emotional and everytime you try to recall just write what you can remember, in time youll be able to recall much more. Plus I went to a new age store near me and I bought a big chunk of Jade, it helps aid dream recall. If you keep it next to your bed or under your pillow and then hold it in the morning it helps you focus on your dream. It has proven very effective and I believe it has enhanced my dreams when it has been under my pillow.
I have a number of crystals that I keep close to me and defo worth having a look into. Just got myself a pretty big pink Aventurine crystal skull! I havent used it properly yet but it looks sweet!!!

Hope you get something from this

      Peace

So when you do get on to lucidity, do you wake up remembering pretty much your whole dream and all the sounds? If of course you have established good dream recall.

Well since I have started writing them down, I have noticed a huge difference when recalling details from my dreams! (I dont do it often enough, but making a small commitment to start doing it more often now! ) I remember them for most of the morning sometimes and as of late, havent been writing many down. But as I said the more you write down and try to remember specific details or whatever you can remember, the easier it will be to recall more of your dreams. I write down my most emotional ones. Have you had any strong emotional dreams? MOst of mine have been apocalyptic :S and theres a whole section in the forum somewhere on that! lol

Hey dude, I don't know if this helps but i started off my life remembering my dreams all the time, around now i can remember up to 5 dreams a night if i'm VERY lucky, usually only about 2-3 though, and i can remember them for weeks after. I don't know if i'm getting anywhere near Lucid Dreaming but last night i picked up that my kitchen did look different, i was like "That's not normal", but i just said oh well and carried on.

I've had good recall for a long time simply because I've always been interested in my dreams and writing them down and talking about them, even before I learned about lucidity. Try talking about them if there's anyone who would be willing to discuss dreams with you (in person, everyone on this page is definitely willing!)

I don't usually recall much dialogue from my dreams, just the visual and sometimes tactile sensations (and rarely, scent and taste). You did say that you'd just started your DJ, give it some more time and your recall will get better!

A few things I can recommend though are writing down not just the gist of those snapshot memories, but what time you woke up, what emotions you were feeling as you woke up, and even drawing (or sketching, depending on your artistic ability lol my DJ is full of stick-figures ) what you can recall of the dream. Also, try to backtrack from what you remember and see if you can figure out what happened before you got into that situation in the dream. Good luck!

Hi Arkarian! to DV! You probably could have created your own thread, but regardless, I gave plenty of tips in my above post. Try those and see if they help, if not post back here.

And also, your name seems familiar for some reason... hmm...

      Hey sk00mba,

From my own experience, the dream journal - as long as you're diligent - will greatly boost your dream recall. I rarely remembered dreams in any great detail until I started recording them. It tells your subconscious that you're serious about remembering your dreams. Lo and behold, you do - eventually. I'd say it took me about 2-3 weeks of serious writing and determination before they started coming to me easily.

A word of advice - always write everything down. Even if you wake up and can only remember a little fragment of one dream, write it down. Sometimes, just starting to write it will make you remember more of the dream or even multiple dreams.

Don't give up! You're definitely on the right track.

I got the name from a character in a book. Otherwise you may have seen it on another website.
