Another Newbie post (and a question about dream recall too)

      Hi everyone!

My name's Doug, and I've been lurking here for about a week or two now, and the concept of lucid dreaming really excites me.

I've been keeping a Dream Journal since i saw this website, and had been having a recall of about 2 dreams a night. Once i had 3, and one of those was a false awakening. But, right after that night of 3 recalled dreams, i haven't been able to remember any of my dreams! At all! it's been 4 days since i have been able to remember a dream.

I tried the "lucid dreaming mp3" that someone on here made, but that's when i lost my dream recall, so i've deduced that that doesn't work for me very well. I had been using a mneumonic phrase before then, and i've tried going back to that. Does anybody have any good tips to improve dream recall?

Do you wake up multiple times during the night, naturally? Or do you remember two dreams upon awakening in the morning? Try telling yourself before you first fall asleep, "I will wake up after every dream and write it down." Focus on recording each dream immediately after you have it, not all at once in the morning.

You should naturally wake up after every dream for a split second anyways (unless you are on weird medications, or have a chemical imbalance in your brain). The problem is, most people don't recognize this split second of consciousness. Most people just immediately fall back asleep.

Well, just do as i guess you always done. Set the alarm to wake you up during a REM period =).
And the lucid dreaming mp3 is helping the recall, but you have to listen to it right before you fall asleep, otherwise it doesn't help.

I had been using the mneumonic phrase "I will wake up after every dream period and I will remember my dream", sometimes I would wake up in the middle of the night and write it down, and sometimes I would wake up in the morning and just remember a couple, without waking up in the middle of the night.

The night that I remembered 3 dreams (according to my DJ), I used the mneumonic phrase "I will remember my dreams and write them down", so maybe I should try that one again, or a combination of the two. Thanks for the tip

The thing is, every time i tried it, i did listen to it right before going to sleep, and if anything it worsened my dream recall. I guess this method just doesn't work for me, though i've read about it helping many people out, so it must be useful to some people!

Thanks a lot for the responses guys!

I think i narrowed down the problem. I was not really having a regular sleep schedule before school started, since school has started i have been able to remember dreams again.

Though, come to think of it, I haven't woken up in the middle of the night and written down a dream in a long while. I wonder why?

Sorry to triple-post, but I posted my Dream Journal so far up here on DreamViews, hoping to get some help recognizing dream signs. The ones I can come up with aren't very helpful.

Here's the ones I can find:

      1. The fact that my DC's are almost always people I see a lot in waking life.

      2. Most places I go to in dreams don't look anything like their real-life counterparts, even though my dream mind is sure that I am in that "real life counterpart" place.

Number 1 is understandable as to why it wouldn't work, if I see these people a lot in waking life I won't think it's odd that I see them in dreams.

as for Number 2, My dream mind never seems to realize that i'm not really in the place that my mind says i'm supposed to be.

Well anyways, I'd love help in recognizing dream signs. My DJ thread is here:

I am also new here and had a quick question. I almost always wake up twice a night and around the same time (3 and 5 in the morning), so I am guessing that I am waking up after my REM cycle which is good. But my dream recall isn't very consistant. My question is how likely is it that I am waking up after a REM cycle (not 100% sure) and is there anything else besides the journal and concentrating on recal prior to sleep that I can do to boost my memory.

Thanks in advance to any who offers a suggestion. And good luck to the person who made the topic.
