      Hello/First real experience.

Hello everyone, my name is Jeremy and I'm fairly new to lucid dreaming. While I've read about it a few times in the past, I've never really tried to make anything of it although it has interested me for quite a while now.

I suppose I gained a renewed interest in the idea after I had, as far as I can recall, my first dream during which I was aware I was dreaming. It happened just last night and quite randomly as I wasn't trying to have any kind of lucid dream. I'm not exactly sure what made me aware that I was dreaming, but I once I realized it, I glanced at my hands (I remembered vaguely reading something about looking at your hands when dreaming, not sure what it was exactly) and they appeared blurred and slightly disfigured. A few seconds later I felt like I woke up, so I went back to sleep. I realized in the morning that when I "woke up" in the middle of the night I was actually still asleep, and that waking up was part of the dream itself. Thinking that I had woken up during the dream seemed to make me "forgot" I was aware of being in a dream at all and that was the end of my lucid dreaming experience.

Sorry about the long wall of text and such (and if it's hard to understand), but I figured I would share my first real experience while introducing myself. If anyone can give me any information on the things I experienced or where to go from here, I'd be quite thankful. Anyway, I suppose I'll start reading around to see what I can learn and look forward to joining the community.

Glad to have you with us. Your first Lucid Dream (LD) appeared to be a Dream-Induced Lucid Dream(DILD).
And it seems you had a False Awakening (FA). Those can really be annoying, especially when they take you out of a LD; that's why LDers always stress the importance of doing Reality Checks (RCs) at all times when you wake up.

But before I start rambling off, here's the Acronym List to get you started!

      Welcome to DV!

WolfDreamer is spot-on about false awakenings. They can be annoying and put an early end to a lucid dream. Check out the newest tutorial on reality checks here. Using RCs is a good way to catch those FAs so you can keep on lucid dreaming!
