i would rub my hands together while still dreaming, or i'd stick out my arms and spin like a helicopter (dream spinning)

      Welcome to Dream Views!

It's easy to get into a kind of trap where you start to believe you are going to wake up right away, so you do. The more it happens, the more you end up worrying about it, and making it happen more. It happens to me like that sometimes.

There are techniques for staying in the dream that you could try. But the best thing you could probably do, is to relax and try not to worry about it too much.
Know that one of these times, you will stay in it longer. Try not to think about waking up once you get Lucid, that always gets me. If I think about waking up, I usually do shortly afterwards.

this happened to me last nite.. twice

first time i became lucid i awoke from being excited. the second time i decided to try and spin once i realised i was dreaming and this worked for a while but again when i thought yes its worked i awoke haha

id say just dont think about it, just roll with the dream and dont even let waking up cross your mind

The excitement can easily wake you up, but as time passes, it should affect you less and less.

The most important thing is to be as fully present in the dream scene as you can. Your mind has to be anchored somewhere, so make sure it's focused on what's around you, and not on what's waiting for you when you wake up.

At the moment I become lucid, I try to remember to just take a good look around and note all the details that are already there in the dream. Notice the temperature, whether there are any smells, sounds, or maybe a breeze in the air. Try to feel the ground under your feet. Take a good long look at your hands and arms, and see what they look like. Touch things with your hands and ask yourself what they feel like.

All of this is very grounding, and can set you up for a nice long lucid if you're in the right frame of mind. I find that my sense of touch is probably the most important to me personally. My lucids that begin with me pausing to touch things are usually the most vivid of all.

Unfortunately, this is a nasty little problem a lot of people new to lucid dreaming experience, and a lot of experienced lucid dreamers still do! I've had 47 and I still sometimes wake up immediately after gaining lucidity

There are a few things that you can do to stop this, you have to Flood Your Senses: The theory behind this is that if your brain is so busy creating dream senses, it won't be able to sense things like the feeling of your pillow or the sound of your fan or whatever is in the real world. If you focus on those sensations, likely you will wake up. So instead, you should do things like rub your hands to get that tactile feeling, try sniffing the air and listening for sounds and speaking out loud. You can even try eating things to see what they taste like, remember you can eat anything in a dream and it's actually fun!

I often find that looking down at my own dream body, talking to myself or to dream characters, and just looking at and touching objects in my dreams can really help. And not only do these things help stabilize a dream, but they are also fun lucid experiences all on their own!

That said, the more experience you get the better you will be at remaining in the dream. Good luck!

Hey, does the community as a whole consider it to be a lucid dream when you wake up shortly after you realize you are dreaming (even if it's 2-3 seconds)?

I wasn't sure if these technically count as a lucid dream b/c they are so short.

      Thanks

Yes, those are lucid dreams, although short ones.

Here's what I did in my 1st lucid: When you realize that you are dreaming (for whatever reason), sit down (in the dream) and take a moment to relax and calm yourself down so that you won't wake up out of shock or excitement at the realization that you are dreaming.

I got excited my 1st time (for obvious reasons) and I almost woke up but I sat down and collected my thoughts and I proceeded to go nuts with flying and all that. It was fun.

If you can stay awake, you will be able to exercise dream control.

Yes, that's still a lucid dream. LDs come in many sizes... the example you give is just a size "1."
