Recurring dream when I sleep alone-REALISTIC!!

      Hi there,

I keep having this reacurring dream everytime I sleep alone. It is so realistic and frightening at the same time. When I drift off to sleep I can actually feel the bed moving as if someone is climbing into bed with me. I can feel his breath on my neck and I've actually felt his hands on me. I completely freeze everytime. I had no sleep last night as everytime I started to drift off to sleep he would crawl into bed with me. Last night he whispered my name and asked me if I had missed him. Please note that this didn't remind me of my fiance. This man is very creepy and totally frightens me. The first time these dreams started happening this "man" actually jumped onto the bed when I was sleeping on my stomach.

I can barely stay awake right now because I didn't sleep last night. My fiance is out of town all week so I'm terrified to sleep again tonight, because it always happens when he is gone.

      Please help.

WOW your the SP (sleep paralysis) master! ^^ i cant help if you want tips how to get him AWAY, but i can say that this is actually pretty good!!! Those are just HIs/HS (Hypnagogic imagery and hypnagogic sounds), they CANT HURT/HARM YOU, so simply: forget about 'em! just ignore them and try to WILD (the perfect way of entering a lucid dream: http://www.dreamviews.com/community/...ead.php?t=1886)

What you are experiencing is a classic hypnogogic hallucination (HH). These happen as sleep paralysis (SP) sets in or ends. Sleep paralysis is a normal, healthy biological process that keeps your sleeping body from acting out your dreams (which would be very dangerous!). If you want more info on SP or hypnagogic hallucinations you should Google them or use your favorite search engine. There is a lot of scientific info about SP and HI.

In less scientific times you may have been told that you had an incubus lover. But really this is all a very vivid and creepy hallucination caused by chemical changes that occur as you fall asleep. It is normal (but still disturbing) and nothing to worry about.

If you are religious and you want this to stop all you have to do is pray that it stop and then belive. Your fear and focus on it happening can make it more likely to happen, so try to let go of your fear. Instead focus on how happy you are to be going to sleep and to be getting a safe, restful night's sleep.

If you aren't religious but believe in helpful energies and all that, all you have to do is say (out loud or in your head) something like "I am safe when I sleep. Bring me safety and comfort tonight." Then belive that it will happen. This works on the same principle as prayer and vice-versa. Try to let go of any fear. Focus on the joy of a good night's sleep instead.

Some people believe in entities that may try to harm them or scare them. If you are one of them and think that this is not just normal (but creepy) HH and want to protect yourself there are several things you can do. You can pray (or do the activity that serves the function of prayer in your beliefs). You can put up symbolic protection in the form of saint images, crystals, etc. You may want to draw a circle of salt around your bed, as no evil thing can cross a salt barrier. Whatever you decide to do it is your intention and belief that is really important. The stronger your resolve to end this and the stronger you believe that your actions will end it, the more effective it will be.

Good luck! If you want any advice or help you can always post it or send me a PM.

      Wow, seeker28's got it covered!

I'll just add that sleep paralysis and hypnagogic hallucinations are great gateways to lucid dreaming. You are right on the edge of sleep when this happens, and entering a dream. Sometimes you are totally asleep already, and just dreaming that you are awake. That's confusing. If you can maintain your cool through the wacky hallucination, you can enter a dream directly while maintaining consciousness.

I think most people on this site have had some crazy or frightening hypnagogic hallucinations at one point.

      hey.

For years the same theme keeps appearing in my dreams. I find myself on some dangerous crane or cliff, or I just happen to be in a high place and I feel petrified with fear. I just stay there trying to hold on or to avoid falling. For example the other night I had a dream where I was on a school trip and we were all seated on this cliff edge. Some people were jumping. I was terrified that I would fall. a boy jumped and died and his body was floating in the water. I just hugged my seat and froze.

Can I consider being up high with no control a dream sign?

I've experienced that a few times. I just get this feeling someone is sleeping on the other side of me, I can feel their body against mine, and their share of the weight on my bed. I believe this happened when I went through SP, I believe it was. i could be wrong though. My body vibrated, tingled, went numb, and the dream went on from there. Just tell yourself a few times while you're nodding off that it's just a dream, you can not be harmed in any way, and that you will wake up and be fine. Just think of this guy as your fiance. xD.

Stuff like this happened to me all the time when I was young. I found that usually, these reocurring dreams and stuff have a trigger. To stop the dreams, avoid the trigger. That should stop the dreams. I had dream every night about a monster that chased me when I looked at my brother's bed. One night, I decided not to look at my brother's bed, and the monster never came. The dream never came either.

The trigger could be another dream or something like that. For example, I had another reoccuring dream (which was really fun) at about the same time as the monster dream. When that dream went away, so did this one.
