      Talking My First Lucid Dream

I have been looking around this site and trying techniques for a few weeks and nothing seemed to get me lucid dreaming and i had basically stopped trying to make myself LD.

But today that change was so wierd at some point in my normal dream i had a look in the mirror and my eye looked like it had taken a knife to it. It was pretty graphic some of the white was missing which at first i was freaked me out but i thought this cant be right im dreaming!
I walked out of the room and looked in the mirror again. This time i had tiny eyes in the middle of my face very distorted thats when i really knew i was dreaming and what at first in my dream i thought was my house was very different. The walls wern't made out of the right materials and the layout was abit different.

When i thought i was established i tried to make things appear by saying to myself 'in the next room there is my new 50" plasma' but when i went into the room i couldn't see anthing so i forced my self awake. When i woke up i managed to get my self lucid again by thinking i will be in a room with a mirror as i went back to sleep and it worked again my face was distorted and i knew i was dreaming. After a bit more exploring i tried materialising things again like jennifer aniston but it would render me blind again ha and i forced myself awake again.

The dream world is soo cool I hope ill be having more soon without the blindness it feels like i've been awake all night and i feel fine. Has anyone else had issues with being blind??

Congrats. I've never had problems with being blind. But, I wanted to tell you.. just by telling yourself in your dream state to do something, or see something, or something to happen won't always work by itself alone, you'll need to have confidence that it will actually happen. Good job though on waking up and returning to a LD state!

Congrats on the lucid, even if it does sound a little freaky. Mirrors can do such creepy things.

Do you wear contacts in real life, and take them out right before sleep? I'm wondering if maybe you were staring at your eyes in the mirror right before bed. I have this theory that brushing and flossing your teeth before you go to sleep is what causes so many broken teeth dreams. Maybe this is something similar?

That sounds really cool. You might want a dream journal, that can help you find dream signs and allow other members to read your dreams and help you find signs too

      Alligator

I have a very stereo-typical recurring dream about being stuck in a muddy trench with an alligator snapping at my feet. Accompanied by the feeling of being knee deep in sludge, the entire dream is in half time, and every time I turn around to see where the beast is, I'm suddenly blind. It's easily interpreted, but I've never been more frustrated

No i don't wear contacts but i remember in that dream before i reliased i was dreaming i was walking to the mirror because i thought my eye felt funny.
And those mirrors are crazy its the first time i have ever seen any like that i can remember.
Also thinking about it was at night quite dark i think maybe i should of turned on some lights.

My advice would be, try not to do anything too difficult at first. Just enjoy the dream and explore what you CAN see. Try floating\flying and maybe try to go through a window. This may open up an outside dreamscape that will be more fun.

Blindness tends to happen when you're trying for something too elaborate. If your brain cannot quite generate the images, you just go blind. Often followed by waking up. Too much exertion can also wake you up.

Just try and enjoy what you can see until you get more experience.
