      Cant remember dreams

Before i start having lucid dreams i know that writing down my dreams in a dream journal is a good thing to do. I also know that once i wake up writing the dreams down is the first thing i should do and that moving alot will make me forget more.
The problem is that when i wake up a lot of times i cant remember if i had a dream or not and when i try to think of recent emotions i come up with nadda. Am i doing something wrong or is there something i can do to remember them or what...

Well you had a dream, whether or not you remember it.
Maybe you should try keeping whatever you write your dream journal in (whether it be a computer or notepad or tape recorder) near your bed, so on those days that you do happen to remember them, you can record them quickly before you forget them.

Practice makes perfect. Are there any things you can think of that may affect your recall? Is your sleeping schedule out of wack? Are you not sleeping enough? Are you not sleeping well?

Are you making sure to lay still when you wake up-- to think about what you dreamt about? I read in a book it's best to remain motionless until you "gather your head"

Usually when I wake up I can only remember one single dream. But I always keep my dreams in the back of my mind because often I will come across a word or thought that triggers at least one other dream. This dream often triggers other dreams until I remember like five dreams in one day. Then I write them dow when I get the chance.

So if your keeping a dream journal all i can say for advice would be to wait and be patiient and keep trying, and never forget about dreaming al throughout the day

To people who remember their dreams regularly: When you started out, did you just remember, say, a dream every few days? Did the amount of dreams you remembered increase?

And to the OP, I have the same problem. I think it's because I subconsciously move my arm in front of my eyes every morning. sleep next to a window, and even though the blinds are down, there are little holes that light peeks through, right onto my face. 'Cause you aren't supposed to move before you remember your dream, right?

Maybe your alarm is not waking you close to a REM cycle. You may not be waking up right after a dream.

Try to wake yourself up (no alarm!) after every dream throughout the night. You do this naturally anyways, but you probably just go directly back to sleep. Pay attention to these midnight awakenings, and use them as a time to recall your dreams and jot down some notes. You'll be surprised how many amazing dreams you were sleeping through, even early in the night.

I'd rather say it's not just a good thing, but absolutely necessary.

First of all, it helps to sleep long, longer than you actually need to. Your late sleep will be light enough to remember dreams better.

Second, even if you can't recall anything, try nevertheless. By doing that you show to yourself, that you want to remember what happened when dreaming. If you just say "Oh, I can't remember, that's bad, but nevermind" you're signaling to yourself, that you do not really care much. It takes strict determination.

Third, write down all the dreams that you can recall and do it in detail. Once you start doing so, more detail may pop up in your memory. It takes a while, but with time this process helps you to remember more and more dreams.

Fourth, open your dream diary and get your pen when you wake up, even if you don't recall anything. Try at least for a few minutes. Doing so, a few things may come back. Last but not least, you're signaling to yourself that it does not help to forget dreams in order to avoid the probably annoying task of writing it down.

      To success!

      Chain of Memories

Seeing a lot of posts on remembering one thing and then more to following, which is an excellent piece of advice. So many times I wake with only an emotion, and nothing to tie it to. Then as I lay there thinking, something else will strike open the dam holding back everything. The Chain of Memories - a very effective technique.

As for dream journals - I personally don't run for mine every morning. I lay in bed, with eye's closed, and think. Once I remember, I'll tell myself the story of my dream - as if around a camp fire. It's kind of childish, but once I remember, it's glued. Then throughout the day I'll write it down.

To those with windows: dreams really don't like light. They're like witches and water. I have that same type of window onlooking my bed. I have a second pillow to put between myself and then window, eliminating a lot of light, or sometimes I sleep under covers.

i wrote down first 4 or 5 dreams that i had within a few days after starting the lucid dream proccess but after them i just stopped remembering them. do you think that me waking up early to go to school is a important factor as to why i cant remember anything. And also after i wake up (supposing that i do get a good amount of sleep) if i dont feel any emotions what can i do to help remember my dream, besides the whole not moving, closing my eyes and keeping my journal close by things.

Don't focus too much on what you do in the morning. Focus more on what you do when you are going to sleep. Tell yourself beforehand you will remember your dreams. Tell yourself firmly several times, "I will wake up after every dream and write it down." Be real bossy with yourself. Convince yourself. Before bed, write the day's date in your journal, and maybe even write next to it, "I will remember all my dreams tonight."

Tell yourself before you go to sleep that you will remember your dreams. Also try waking up 5-6 hours after you go to sleep so that the dreams will still be fresh in your head.

      talk to your self

Robot is right, say to yourself out loud "I will Remember my dreams"
maybe even throw in "I will have a Lucid dream tonight." your brain is very susceptible to repetition doing this every night should help

I am having a similar problem. I wake up in the morning, and maybe remember one detail, but thats it. Other than that though I remember at least one dream a night. Another problem for me is waking up at six, and writing in my journal in the dark. Its nothing but scribbles and off the lines, and I dont want to turn the lights on to do that, because I dont want to forget anything.

So I woke up early this morning, and no light came through my window. I also had repeated to myself that I would remember my dreams, and I also fell asleep with classical music playing. Whatever the reason, I had quite a long dream, and remembered most of it! My alarm woke me up, and ended my dream though, which probably explains why I remember it all mixed up. Anyway, I'm just glad I remembered!
