      A surprisingly typical first experience

      Hi,

I've known about lucid dreaming for quite a while. My 9-year old son is a lucid dreamer.

I've got no training or dream journals, but for years I've noticed some of my (what I now know to be) dream signs, particularly I always try to read any writing in my dreams and it always turns out to be a bunch of confused letters. This usually wakes me up though. I poked around a bit and it seems this is fairly typical.

A few times I've been able to control flying, but I didn't know I was dreaming until I woke up. Looks like flying is typical, too.

Last night I had my first what I could all completely lucid dream. I'd woken up at 4:15am after about 5 hours of sleep and had trouble falling asleep again. This is rare for me, but apparently typical or common for LDs.

I'll spare you the details, but I was able to intentionally dream up a sex partner. Again, typical.

When I woke up, I checked myself and appeared to have had a wet dream. I was telling my real life partner about my LD, when I noticed she had four breasts, and realized I was still in an LD. Again a small amount of searching shows this kind of false awakening is typical or common.

How strange it is to be so typical!

I guess when it comes down to it, we are all built of the same parts, living in the same world. We are bound to have common experiences when it comes to stuff like this. Don't let it make the experience any less amazing. I'm sure it was still crazy fun and trippy as hell.

Interesting that your son has lucid dreams, naturally. Any ideas on where they come from? I'm assuming, from your post, that you encourage him to give them the attention they deserve. We have some natural lucid dreamers around here who say they have been having lucid dreams since childhood. If only we could figure out what makes them different from the rest of us dreamless duds.

I'm not quite sure WHY i've had LD's in my childhood. but i do know that I never realized that most ppl didn't have this ability until rather recently. I know that my dreams have always been rather interesting and I have several reoccurring dreams (all seem to be dark and malevolent.). I can even remember some of my dreams from back in my childhood. I'm hoping dropping back into the ability to LD often will come to me soon. I have no doubts that it won't. Just thought I'd give my two cents
I am the beast within myself...
