      hey all,

ive been recently trying to increase my dream recall and i guess its sort of been working since i can ecall at least 2-5 dreams per night but theyre always super short like ~1 minute if that.. im wondering if that should improve with time or if im doing something wrong perhaps

      thankss

There are several possibilities for what is causing you to have short dreams.

You could be recalling non-REM dreams. These are very short and usually consisit of a repeated image, sound or phrase, or idea. If this is what is going on -- congratulations! Very few people remember this kind of dream.

Maybe you are only remembering dreams from early in the night when the REM phase is shortest. You could be waking up a lot at night. Or instead of having one long dream that is recognizable as one dream per REM phase, you might be having lots of little dream bits per REM phase. Or you could be sleeping too much and using up all of your REM long before you get up.

Think about your sleep and when you wake up at night. When you remember these dreams in the morning does it feel like they just happened, or does it feel like they are from much earlier in the night? This will help you figure out what is going on.

What do you think it is?

i know what you mean but i think that sometimes that is just how our minds are some people have really long dream and you just have really short ones i have both long and short

i don't really know if there is anything that you can do to improve on how long your dreams but it seems like writing your dreams down can help oh and i have a little question that might help and this is critical........do you read books i don't mean magazines but like novels 300+ pages?

hey for seeker28 i actually do wake up in the middle of the night a lot, and ive noticed that my dreams seem to be from a long time ago in the night.. like hours old or something thats why i can only remember really short snippets, it feels like i only remember really intense or bold parts of the dream..

and for reese i guess i dont really read many books at all, i started a little more this summer, do you think this has something to do with my brains lack of "story line" schema? because thats what i thought at first. my dreams seem to lack narration or event sequence.. makes it seem like id have to be really lucky to become lucid in one of these tiny sections.

From your reply I'd guess that you are actually having longer dreams than you can remember. If you take time to jot down some dream notes whenever you wake up during the night, you might discover you've been having long dreams all along.

On another note, waking up during the night naturally (without an alarm) is geally good if you want to try to WILD or DEILD.

hey thanks for the help i actually had a lucid yesterday after soo many hours of research and practice i ended up recalling bigger chunks of those small parts and went lucid after like the third one of the night. i think it was just a matter of building up some more solid recall. thanks again!
