There are a bunch of different ways to WILD. In EWOLD, LaBerge talks about the Twin Bodies Technique, which is one where you float or climb or whatever out of your body. Basically, stepping your 'dream body' out of your 'real body' (even though no such thing actually happens, it's just the concept of, "Well you can get up out of bed, since it's a dream body, you can just go into the dream."

You could also try any sort of visualization WILD, or HIT, or something along those lines. It's pretty much open to you, and whatever you can get to work. I have trouble with WILDs but mine vary in how they begin.

      The only thing is, everytime I expereince sleep paralysis, I see images of aliens or something terrible, accompanied by having a very hard time breathing, and sometimes it feels like I'm convulsing (if I've just woken up, say... my mind is concious but I cant open my eyes or move so in an attempt to shake awake it looks like I'm having a seizure). Is it really necessary? Cause if thats whats likely to happen, I'd much rather not WILD... ;__;
Sleep paralysis IS NOT NECESSARY TO LD. Don't listen to Conkt. You do not need to focus on achieving 'sleep paralysis', though you can if you desire. Techniques that involve visualization generally focus on the idea of not being aware of your real body, but submersing yourself through visualization into the ideal dream scenario so that you eventually enter it as an actual dream. As I said, read around, find what you like, and try it.

Are you actually physically shaking? Or does it just feel like you're vibrating? If you can't get out of SP, try to move your extremities first. Wiggle the toes and fingers, try to flutter your eyes. Those are all typical sleep paralysis symptoms. Try not to give them attention. If there's a scary hallucination, try not to give it more attention to cause it to become a point of focus. Distract yourself by imagining the dream that you want to go in to and running over your lucid goals or something.

My sleep Paralysis usually only happens after a long sleep.
Its hard to explain, but once I start the paralysis theres no way to calm & go back to sleep. Its like my mind is completely alert, but I'm paralysed. I'm too alert & aware of my confinement to chill out and go back to sleep XD

Yeah, my body actually shakes. Cause, I start struggling against it entirely rather than move one thing at a time. Thats becuase like 50% of the time when I'm in SP, I have difficulty breathing because sometimes my mouth wont open and my nose is half covered by the pillow, so I get anxious and try to shake myself awake. Pretty much I look retarded -_- Eventually I shake my body awake but like you said, the hallucinations distract me. Like sometimes I'll think someones in the room walking by me & even though I KNOW they're not there, being paralysed withthat sight freaks me out XD Thas only when I can open my eyes, though. If I can breathe & my eyes are able to open, I usually dont freak out too much about the rest of the paralysis. I talk too much, sorry >_>

Well, last night I tried WILD for at least an hour (6:00am) and everytime I felt like I was slipping out of the real world, I became too alert about it and ended up grounding myself in reality again. Thanks for clearing that up, though. I wasn't sure exactly what to look for or do/visualize/think so tonight if I wake up my attempt should be a bit more successful. (and I'm waaaay stoked about not having to SP)

Sounds like you suffer from "Isolated Sleep Paralysis", which is how scientists distinguish
involentary sleep paralysis from general rem atonia. Jesus it sounds frightening.

All I can suggest is you try and become conditioned to realise that what your feeling/seeing isn't real, and that it will pass.

I read such attacks last a couple of minutes at most, it just seems longer.
Easier said than done I suppose. Hope you get a handle on it.

Yeah, it usually ends after about one minute (thank God haha)
I think, the worst hallucination I had connected to that would be when I opened my eyes, I guess I was still half asleep, & I saw my freind come over and try to suffocate me. (thus once again I started with the "augh I cant breath or move" crap) When I really woke up, he was there going, "Are you okay??"

But then again... I'm not sure if that just classifies as a lucid dream or not. Probably was an extremely vivid nightmare & maybe my eyes weren't really open D=

Hopefully practicing lucidity can get rid of that~ -is stoked-
And, thats neat, I had no clue there were two different kinds : O
I just thought that happened to everyone at one point or another, and that some people just got it seldom & some more. It runs in my family (at least, my mom has it) so I assumed it was normal but annoying lmao. Now I have another thing to look up, haha

I think having talked about it in a more literal way will probably make it less freaky when it happens from now on, anyway (hopefully) XD

PS, can you change the sleep paralysis visions, the same way you can change LD visions?

Hope it works out for you.

As to your visions, if they are like dreams, then yes you can change them.
But you have to "expect" them to change. You have to really believe that are just visions. I read threads where posters have said they were able to do the same - to change threatening visions into friendly ones. Some dude changed the "hag" into a sexy dancing girl.

You should understand that your brain is creating these visions to tie through with your physical sensations. For example, feeling like your not getting enough breath is common enough in SP (Its just your breathing in full automatic mode) but your brain creates an imaginary external threats to match this feeling, like your friend trying to smother you.

Accepting that the feelings and physical processes are natural would help I guess.

Perhaps the best thing to do is just close your eyes and try and ignore the physical sensations, and concentrate on your internal thoughts.

Easier said than done I know.

      Good luck to you.

      First, thank you soo much!
Second, I had my first self induced LD from a WILD like, two hours ago D= And holy crap, they're like nothing I expected. I knew lucid dreaming was being aware in dreams, & I've had dreams like that but never with such clarity. I guess I wasn't expecting it to mirror real life so well.

And you're right, its not really so bad.
But, I -did- experience body paralysis. )=
I was trying to WILD, when suddenly my boyd felt uh... like it was shaking?
But it wasnt me who was doing the shaking, its odd. My chest was like having small earthquakes or something. Becuase of that, I tried to get up and realized "shit...I'm paralysed" So, I tried shaking myself awake one limb at a time like someone suggested. I got myself free, and my first thought was, "What a waste, whats the point in trying to WILD if I'm just gonna SP and wake up." Then, becuase I've been doing this every night since i started a dream journal (three nights ago), I reality checked just because. I could breathe thorugh my nose with it plugged. Well, I almost pissed myself when I realized that even though I'm still in my room and fully coherent I'm dreaming. I am so glad I decided to take up practicing LD just for this amazing experience. Also, Sleep paralysis isn't scary anymore and its worth it just for that XD. Then again, I didnt have visions this time like I sometimes do so that might be why.

Only thing is, after I did one thing I wanted to do, which was summon a friend (trying to use passive force by thinking, oh he's outside the door to uh... apologize for the fight we had last week? and I opened the door & he was there, and yes I had my way with him. Sadly that is the fist thing I did during my first self induced LD, hahaha) but after that, I tried to change my cat from brown to green but it wouldnt work, and the dream got fuzzy. I tried spinning like they suggested but my body started getting stiff and tired, and the spinning wasnt working. After that, my dream was only half lucid, I only sometimes remembered I was dreaming D=. So I definetely need to practice, or something...

Anyway thanks a whole effing lot for the advice about SP, it chilled me out when I was WILDing and couldnt move XD

Hey thats brilliant news. Congratulations on your WILD.
I've very happy for you (also a bit jealous).
See how tricky False awakenings can be!

I've yet to properly wild myself, though I have felt the crazy vibrations.

      What technique did you use?
