I keep getting stuck in a specific WILD step

Whenever I try to WILD I end up getting as far as having hypnagogic hallucinations that feel like I'm on a roller coaster, but I can't get any farther than that. It happens as such: I close my eyes and relax. Then I see some colors. Then I feel like I'm on a rollercoaster. That feeling persists for 30 minutes or so coupled with me seeing a few sporadic images. After that I always wake up, do an RC and find that I'm awake. Does anyone know what I might be doing wrong?

I'm not sure that you are doing anything very wrong, but perhaps your body is not quite tired enough to fall completely asleep. Does this normally occur after you have woken up during the night or at the beginning of the night when you are first going to sleep?

Also, how would you characterize your emotional state during these 30 minutes? Curious? Calm? Anxious? Scared? Some of this info might help identify why these HH aren't transitioning into the dream state.

Usually in the beginning of the night/during an afternoon nap is when I try to do it. Initially I'm relaxed, but I usually get excited due to the onset of the HH's.

If possible, try to wake yourself up in the middle of the night, and then immediately try this. Hopefully your body will be tired enough that it will not only shorten the wait period, but also make it more likely that you will fall directly into the dream state.
