      What is a dream like?

I haven't had a dream since I was 8, and now I am 16. I don't remeber how dreams are suppose to feel. Are dreams suppose to be as vivid as real life, or do you only remeber them by thought, kinda like imagining things or day-dreaming. When I dream should it feel real or just be fanciful thoughts? I tried auto-suggestioning for the first time last night, saying, "I will wake up after every dream and remeber it." (Am I suppose to say it until I fall asleep?) Anyways, one of the times I woke up I remebered something, but it just felt like I was remebering something I thought up or imagined, not dreamed. So...?

P.S. I am talking about normal dreams, not Lucid, I need some dream recall before I can lucid

Yes, repeat your mantra (the little phrase) over and over as you fall asleep.

If that doesn't work, come back!
      Bollocks.

You're doing the right thing. It might take some time to convince your mind you want to develop a new habit.

Some dreams can seem as real, or even more real than your waking world. For me, visuals are often especially clear. I wish all dreams were like that. Unfortunately, some dreams can be hazy, and lack vividness and clarity. We are also cursed with this inaccurate human memory. I have had lucid dreams where I commented to myself how vivid and clear everything was, then once I woke, my memory of the dream was muddled. I guess this is similar to our waking memory. Sure, the present moment seems vivid, but how clear is your memory of yesterday? Or even this morning?

Your on the right track. When you wake up, always write down anything you remember. even if it is a vague feeling And it should feel like you made it up :p cuz u did, its your dream. Just write down anything and everything. Your recall will come back

Okay, I think I am starting to understand. Maybe with practice I'll gain clarity!!! I only had one vivid dream that I still remeber to this day, actually it was my last one. I keep thinking it was very vivid, but maybe that was becuase my mom made me right down the dream. I remebered it, even in the evening. But I don't remeber how it felt. I just know it was vivid somehow??

Okay, I will. Last night, all I could remeber in one of my dreams(I think it was a dream) was the name Jacob. I don't know why, but it just felt right. Well thank you all for your advice and support. I'll keep trying!
