      FNG here

Hello, all. I'm a fifteen year old Metalhead with an interest in everything from Counter Strike to Behavioral Psychology. I've known about Lucid Dreaming for a year now, but I never attained much success. Hopefully I'll be able to change that and help some other people out in the process. Wish me luck.

Welcome to Dream Views! You might want to start a dream journal, which helps with recall (and also seems to increase the chance of a lucid dream too, at least for me). There's a section in the forums for dream journals: http://www.dreamviews.com/community/...splay.php?f=26

Anyways, good luck getting some lucids

Welcome Frag, glad to see you here. You'll absolutely be able to change that. What have you tried so far?

I used to keep a Dream Journal, I'll have to hunt it down later. My Dream Recall is pretty bad, though. I usually remember fragments rather than entire dreams.

      Thanks for the warm welcome.

Well, in the past I've tried MILD/autosuggestion. It didn't help, though.

WILD has been my method of choice recently. Unfortunately, I can't get past sleep paralysis. I just end up laying motionless for an hour or two while waiting for my bloody subconscious to get its act together.

Well, a huge myth is that you need sleep paralysis to WILD or to dream. This is utter BS, don't let it hold you back! Just experiment with the different WILD techniques people have written up here, or try to DEILD.

Personally, I just rely on reality checking and it is consistently awesome with little effort. I always advise people to do that because I think it's the best way to go!

Absolutely true! The WILD method I use is simply to fall asleep normally and wait for "the falling feeling" If you've ever started to feel like you're falling and jerked awake, that's what it is. The idea is to keep telling yourself you're dreaming and be expecting the falling feeling so that you can let it continue. When you stop falling, you're in a dream. I haven't once had to go through sleep paralysis (although I have accidentally just fallen asleep and lost consciousness. That's why it's good to have other methods to fall back on).

You don't need sleep paralysis to WILD? That's great news. I would always lay completely still with my eyes closed waiting for SP. Being so stiff and uncomfortable must have been what was keeping me awake in the first place.

Come to think of it, I should resume my Reality Checking again anyway.

I've felt that falling sensation on the scarce times that I had a successful WILD. I'll be sure to look out for it next time.

Thanks for your help, nautilus/Shift. I know what I'm doing tonight.

Sure thing Yea, SP is something that sometimes occurs, and a bunch of people just went WILD with (ooooh). It is unnecessary, makes WILDing infinitely harder than it really should be, and also infinitely scarier than it should be all for no good reason People spend hours trying to dissect it when you don't even need it, and you don't even know you have it unless you are monitoring your muscles or are actually paralyzed. SP is to be ignored unless you suffer it naturally, I say.
