      Reality Checks

I've been reading the stickies and have concluded that I should try to get DILDs to start out with. I am also keeping a dream journal to help with dream recall. But when they say to preform a "reality check" or reality checks throughout the day, what does that actually involve? Is there a certain thing you are supposed to do to make sure you are not dreaming, or do you just question if you are awake or not?

There are several types of reality checks. Most common are the nose pinch reality check, where you pinch your nose and try to breathe through it. If you're dreaming, you'll be able to.
The other one is the watch reality check, you look at your watch, cover it with your hand and then imagine the watch on a different time. Then look back and if it's changed, you're dreaming

      Just the most basic stuff

Here is the guide to reality checks, it lists many of them.

Most importantly, don't just do them, feel what they mean. If you just go throughout your day pinching your nose, but not thinking about it, it might not help.
      Bollocks.

Hi guys, I have a quick question. Are Reality Checks only used after noticing a dreamsign in the wakingworld (like your alarm beeps or you see a red BMW) or just whenever you think about it?

I've been doing mine with the latter technique. I've written RC on my palm, and perform one when I see it by counting my fingers, pushing my finger through my palm (well, attempting ), and pinching my nose. But usually I don't even need to read my palm to start doing it - so far, reality checks haven't helped though in my dreams...

The first works better in the long run. (Any time something is out of place, especially if you often see that something in the dream).

The second one is "binge lucid dreaming." It has the capacity to work over and over, if you continuously have the same passion about it. (But, some days, that's difficult)

It;s anything that helps you figure out if you are dreaming or awake. Check out the tutorial for reality checks in the tutorial section. It's got a number of common ones and explains just what they are.

Thanks Shift. I've read your signature more than once, and I follow your instructions. I check my hands, the clock, text..etc.

I tend to not do to well with drill-practise, and to me understanding something will benefit me more in the long run. I'll try your technique in the last paragraph of thinking 'how did I get here'.

Don't count on the finger through the hand RC, the one time I tired that in a dream, it failed. Usually my environments are unusual in dreams, so now I'm checking my surroundings and trying to remember how I got where I am.
