Red face New to the so called gettin 'Wild' :D

so i tried to wild yesterday night and this is what i did. . .

first...i laid on my back which i'm comfortable with and was really relaxed
second...my eyes were closed and i started feeling this swirling movement and saw some blue swirly thingys
lastly...i wake up the next day and find out i wasn't able to wild since i fell asleep watching those swirly thingys.

      any help here

-what do i do after i see some kind of movement in my head? like images and all that? i'm soo confused D:

If purple monkeys weren't meant to fly then why do i only see them when I'm high?

That's the hard part... You want to watch the swirly things, but not so much that you fall asleep (I read somewhere that the swirls are hypnotic... anyone know if that's true?). Try counting or visualization to keep yourself awake. It's also important not to focus too hard, or you'll wake up. Sorry, I'm not very good at explaining; I've never succeeded at a WILD myself, but I've read about it and I think I pretty much understand how it works. If you're new to lucid dreaming, you probably want to start out with DILD (see the tutorials). Good luck.

yeah thats hypnogogic imagery in its early stages i do beleive. it sounds like you didnt get very far. just keep at it. and READ THE TUTORIALS! all of them. and try everything. then keep record of what happens. this will help you find what works best for you. me personally, i just do a wbtb and it works like magic for DILDing.

      good luck

Is it possible to WILD during the day or say when you go to bed in the evening...?

Because i usually nap in the afternoon and still sleep, even though they say you REM after 5 hours of sleep.

It's possible to WILD during a nap because you go directly to REM. Sometimes it's hard to fall asleep in the afternoon though.

I don't recommend trying to WILD when you first go to bed, because REM won't start until much later. I'm not sure when the sleep cycle "resets," but you should be fine in the morning or early-mid afternoon, and maybe even later-ish afternoon. I'm guessing it's different for different people; you'll have to experiment and see what works best for you.

You can WILD whenever you want to. The only reason people prefer to do it with a Wake Back To Bed (after five or six hours of sleep) is because you will WILD right into the REM (rapid eye movement) stage of sleep where our dreams are most prominent. But a common misconception is that we don't dream in the Non-REM sleep when studies continue to show that we do. I, personally, do both. I attempt WILDs when I go to bed and have my alarm set to wake me up five hours after that and attempt another WILD. This is probably the best thing you can do to get better at WILDing and establishing a solid technique of your own. The more you practice, the faster you will get it.

When it comes to WILDing itself, there is no definite way to teach someone to doing it, but there is a lot of advice that can be given. First, make sure you're comfortable. That is paramount. If you feel the need to move or reposition yourself, by all means, go ahead. Trying to WILD in an uncomfortable position will get you nowhere. As for staying awake, I naturally have trouble falling asleep as it is so I can't really give too much advice on what to do other than taking deep breaths while focusing on keeping your head clear of thoughts. You can either try focusing on your (slow and deep) breathing or on a constant sound (a fan, heater, etc.). This helps to keep me aware of where I'm at and how close I am to falling asleep. For instance, when you're close to falling asleep, you might have noticed that your thoughts started to drift and not really make sense at all. This is usually because the logical part of your brain is falling asleep. So the key is not to let it, otherwise, you will most likely lose consciousness and fall asleep.

Then, if you find yourself hearing loud noises, seeing weird things, or experiencing a rushing sensation (like falling through your bed, the walls, or the ceiling) then there is no need to worry, these are all common occurrences associated with Hypnogogic Imagery; this usually means that you are consciously crossing the bridge from wakefulness into sleep (of course, it may be different for everybody, but I'm just trying to give you an idea of what it may be like for you). So if you should experience any of this, then my advice is to try your best not to make too big a deal out of it by becoming excited (not that we can always help it), because doing so increases your heart rate consequently waking you up. I advise you to instead, acknowledge these occurrences but to continue focusing on your breathing or whatever else you were focusing on until these effects have subsided. With practice, this will be child's play for you. Trust me, I'm making it sound a lot harder than it really is. I hope that I was somewhat helpful. Keep practicing and keep us updated on your progress.

when you woke up, did you do some reality checks? sometimes that can be a false awakening.

Ooooh, that's what you were asking? It's probably leftover HI (I don't know how to spell it... hypnagogic imagery?), if you'd already woken up. Basically they're hallucinations.

      :)

      i finally got wild

alright lemme tell you about it well i was in my room lying on my back very comfortably and i had my eyes closed. i had these creepy images flickering in my head but i didn't mind at all. it started to get all shaky and my mind got all weird and suddenly everything stopped and it became eerie silent. i was all like 'wtf ?' then i opened my eyes. i was in a church and i remembered i was in my room just randomly on my bed. i got really excited and immediateley did a RC where i pinched my nose, closed my mouth and tried to breathe. i could breathe! hallelujah. i saw someone i disliked grinning at me and i wanted to leave the church asap. i got out by giving a pass to a person to leave and sliding out of a hole outta the church. then...i wanted to talk to a person i liked and wanted them to appear. he did appear and yeah. he was just like hey! i wasn't in this dream! he shrugged it off and we started talking and talking about the weirdest things. like the european countries. after a while i was starting to lose lucidity and i started staying 'vivid' and my dream became more vivid and stable. after...we were about to get down and i woke up

      hehe.

If purple monkeys weren't meant to fly then why do i only see them when I'm high?
