WILD Technique - Breathing & Heartbeat Help

      Hi everyone

I am new to Lucid Dreaming, Although I have had the chance to do some extensive research over the last week or so, I am really into it - such an amazing phenomenon.

So I have had DILD, it lasted only a few seconds, but it was exciting nevertheless, however I do want to induce a WILD...I have read the tutorials and am having a problem with one 'little thing'

I find it easy to become relaxed, clear my mind, count, get into partial paralysis, then eventually into full paralyis - no problems...I can guarantee myself getting into sleep paralysis anytime i try to WILD.

The difficult part for me is entering REM & full sleep paralysis, I see the images, have heard sounds but im very distracted by my heart POUNDING against my chest, and finding an INCREDIBLE amount of pressure on my chest and therefore feel the need to breath deeper....the change in my breathing obviously brings me out of full paralysis and into partial paralysis....and i loose the REM period.

I feel soooo close to the dream state but it's just this little hinderance.

I hope you guys can give me some pointers, i've read other topics but i'm not sure if they cover my specific question.

Thanks guys, by the way im new to Dream Views!! Howdy!

Man! i was just gonna come on here to ask the same question, i too have exactly the same problem as you! my heart absolutly pounds when i get into SP. its really annoying, i suppose it will go away the more times you try it as you will get used to the feeling/sensations, though i dunno. maybe an experienced wilder will give us some tips!

Yeah it does feel so close, when i came out of it i was so annoyed that i literally slapped myself across the face and commented about how much of an idiot i was for not staying focused

it probably is a breathing thing, lets wait and see...

Keep enduring it and eventually you won't have that panicky state of mind. I used to get the feeling of falling into an abyss, my heart would race, my breathing would become erratic and it would always wake me but eventually I just went with it and it was smooth sailing from there!

After a view times you get used to being in SP and you will eventually calm down.
If you keep you breathing at a slow relaxed rate (as if your asleep) SP will become a lot stronger.
Keep in mind why you are in SP and remind yourself that its perfectly normal.

I get the same thing. That is why I try to take my attention away from my body when I WILD. When I feel myself entering into paralysis, having intense hypnagogia, vibrations, ect, I will immediately imagine myself in a new scene. I use a vivid memory of doing something that engages my body. This way, I can move my attention from my real body into a dream body. It makes for a smoother transition than trying to rip myself out of paralysis, or ride out some crazy body distortions.

This breathing difficulty and chest pressure that you mentioned is a very common hallucination that occurs during sleep paralysis, cutely named the "Incubus". My advice to you is, since you're able to induce SP easily, try to find a way to induce it while distracting yourself from your body. Maybe try to focus on any hypnagogic imagery you're experiencing (HIT) or try to visualize a dream scene and give yourself some other sensations to think about (VILD).

The heart racing can either be hallucination, but it's also likely you're just excited or nervous. This is a huge problem I have too. Since you're able to get into SP, just keep trying. Distracting yourself may get rid of this, and more experience may get rid of it. If you're already getting to a point where your body is physically paralyzed, and if you can attain this state easily, you're nearly there. Just try to keep reading around and trying different things! Good luck.
