Thread: Reaching SP

Hello guys, I've been trying for the past week to do WILD, but looks like I can't even manage to reach SP!

So here is how I proceed! Before going to bed I drink alot of water, then I woke up around 3:00 AM and write inside my DJ if I can remember any dreams, then I go to the toilet and finally go to bed again. In my bed I'm counting my breath twice. Like Inspiring (1) Expiring (1) Inspiring (2) Expiring (2), So I say 2 time the same number. Actually I changed the technique because of my main problem!! I'm distracted!!!!! Everytime I'm trying to reach SP my mind slowly drift away on some life subject or so and then fall asleep.

So I'm asking you if trying to do some more complexe thing with my mind would help me to focus and stay Awake untill SP? If yes, any idea of what I could do?

I also tried to do FILD (Finger Induced) in which you are taping gently with 2 finger until SP. Same scenario...I fall asleep because I'm not thinking enough of what I'm doing.

Anyways...Help me? ><

You might wanna try a WILD technique that doesn't require SP.

Why are you drinking water? I thought the idea behind that was so that when you 'wake naturally at the end of a REM period' you have to piss. But then, most people want to WILD during a REM period, right after waking up from it. So following that logic, aren't you trying to WILD into stage 4 sleep?

I though it was the same xD! I mean if I get up right after a REM cycle, when I'll go back in my bed I'll defnitly be right before an other REM? Well I guess it's not with your answer! So I'll try to set up my alarm somewhere in during a REM.

And btw I've noticed 2 specific hours I wake up when I drink whate; 1:00 AM and 4:30 AM. So is it a good idea to set it up between these?

I always read on here that you wake up naturally after REM dreams. I'm not sure how accurate that is. But I suppose you can use that to assume when your average REM period ends and then schedule WBTBs during it.

Sleep goes like this:

Stage 1 -> Stage 2 -> Stage 3 -> Stage 4 -> Stage 5(REM) -> Stage 4 -> Stage 3 -> Stage 2 -> Stage 3 -> etc.

If I've understood it correctly, you'll wake up right after a REM period if you have a full bladder. I also think a standard REM period lasts 90 minutes, so perhaps it'd be a good idea to set an alarm at 3:00 AM?
I might be wrong though... I'm hardly a seasoned LDer.

It would be better that way I suppose, if you think that that time would be better for you, why not?

Well, I only had 1 WILD, and I guess I'm not in the position to say this at all . I just relaxed, I started with counting my breathing too, but I got too bored and these thoughts suddenly flew from nowhere. So I visualized a football game, and it became more and more realistic, until I got lucid. I didn't experience SP.

Do you focus on having SP? I tried that many times, and I always fail. But when I didn't focus on having SP, instead I just let the visuals flow by and focused on becoming lucid, that's when I succeeded .

I'll try to set my alarm around 3:00 tonight and I'll give you some feedback. And I'm focusing on SP because I think it's the frist step before WILD...no? Ahah I still have so much to learn!! Anyway if I fail tonight I'll try to focus more on being lucid and not to have SP.

And btw I was wonderings if WILDs are easier to recall?...since it is self induced I think it should be.

According to the guide on Sleep Paralysis, it seems it's only one way into SP.
