Not sure if it was a lucid dream

Ok, in my dream I was at a school that I was not familiar with. And I had gotten in trouble so they had me handcuffed in a back room with a couple of other kids I did not know. Then, I realized the handcuffs were loose and I could get out of them. But before I could, the principal walked in and started yelling at us. But then I realized that this wasn't my normal school and that I hardly ever get in trouble so this must be a dream. So, to see if it would work, I tried to bring someone into my dream, but they didn't look anything like the person in real life. Then I woke up.
So, I am wondering if this is a lucid dream or not. I didn't really get excited or anything but I just remember saying to myself that I am dreaming. I didn't do any reality checks or anything just tried to bring someone into my dream.

      Thanks for reading, please respond!

A low level lucidity is still lucidity. In my opinion, and some people differ on this, you are lucid if you question your surroundings. Doesnt matter for how long or how clear it was. That is to do with dream control and retaining lucidity. It seems like your mind is open enough to accept the possibility that sometimes you just might be dreaming, which is exactly what you need to practise for these short lucid dreams to become longer.

      Keep at it

What Silverwing said is correct. A lucid dream is simply realizing that you are dreaming while you are dreaming. Lucidity does not necessarily mean dream control and dream control does not necessarily mean lucidity.

Ok, thanks for the responses. I am also wondering if it is common to think during dreams while not being lucid. Because I often think to myself during dreams but I am not controlling the dream or anything so I am fairly certain it is not lucid dreaming.

Of course, its probably just as common to be thinking during your dreams than it is to think when you're awake. The difference is, i think, when your'e dreaming you usually take a back seat and dont realise that you are actually there and aware. Lucidity is merely making this realisation. When you are in a dream state and are referencing (thinkin, speaking of) your body which is asleep in the waking world, you are generally lucid. Doesnt matter for how long.

Lucidy is not thinking inside a dream. It is the recognition and affirmation that you are in a dream, while your body lies there sleeping. It is a very simple definition, actually, and will become clearer to you as you explore the dream world.

Baseballer, like Silverwing said, merely thinking in a dream does not make it lucid. It's the realization that you are dreaming and none of what's happening is "real". I would guess that most people think during their dreams... it's what they're thinking ABOUT that makes all the difference.

But it would be helpful to remember what you were thinking in your dream no matter what it was because they could be "inner awareness" dream signs. That is, it's sometimes inner thoughts and feelings (rather than actions and sensations) that clue us into the realization that we're dreaming.

If you knew it was a dream, you were lucid dreaming. That is the definition.
