      Low lucidity in my dream

I had my first LD this morning. I realized I was dreaming after counting my fingers, but I immediately began to lose lucidity and I knew it. So I started rubbing my hands and spinning right away. I had moderate control of my dreams, like I could fly and conjure weapons, but the weapons didn't look like I wanted them to (I got a little shitty plastic laser SMG rather than a high-powered laser assault rifle). But what really bothered me is that, while I knew I was dreaming the whole time, the dream still felt more like a dream than real life; it wasn't nearly as vivid as I was expecting. Are some LDs simply like this, and does it get better with practice? I really thought spinning and hand rubbing was supposed to drastically increase lucidity, but it didn't really work out too well for me...

What's helped me more than spinning/hand rubbing is touching things, taking a "hold on the dream" seems to increase your perception of it being reality.

For me, control is often somewhat random. But I can definitely say my level of control/vividness has increased since my first few lucids. At any rate, you have much better control than I did in my beginning lucids

Some are like that, some are more vivid, without a doubt it increases with practice (or at least frequency), and welcome to DV!
