      The Patch and dream recall

Hi Everybody!! Im doctor new guy hah anyway......
the last time i can remember my dreams (nightmares to be more exact), was when I tried to quit smoking and used the patch. It says on the box it may cause nightmares (if i remember correctly).... but how do the more experienced people feel about this and getting started with dream recall? Maybe after a few vivid dreams on the patch and seeing some dreamsigns i wont need the patch??
Oh, this is my first day even thinking about lucid dreams or anything of the nature but am insanely excited to start so I appreciate this website, forum and in particular responses to my very own question

      Thanks

For one, if you've quit smoking, this patch would seem counter productive. And while it IS true that many people first discover lucid dreaming while trying to get rid of nightmares, it would be far more productive and healthy to simply learn the normal methods used.

A patch alone doesn't guarantee nightmares, and it doesn't guarantee having dream recall (Infact, you will be lucky to have any recall at all if you rely on the patch). To build recall and find your dream signs, you have to keep a dream journal, this is something that can't be skipped. After every night, you write down every dream you remember as accurately and detailed as you can. Even if all you remember was that the dream had lots of red colors, write it down. By writing it down every day, you are telling your brain "This is important to me! Remember this stuff!"

You can keep it on a notepad file on your computer (RTF Format is preferable :p) or in a written journal at your bed side. Pick whichever suits you.

Welcome, I can assure you that Lucid Dreaming is easily one of the most enjoyable and worth while pursuits you can have. For starters, I'd recommend beginning your dream journal (It's really a must do, the patch simply won't work) and spending some time trying out the different techniques. The forums have TONS of techniques developed by all these different people, and there is at least one that will match you well. Good luck!

PS - if you are still trying to quit smoking, and are just looking to incorporate learning lucid dreaming with it, that's all well and good, I'm just saying don't use it if all you want out of it is dream recall, it won't work.

PSS - Some people are more adept than others, and you might get discouraged. I myself have quit trying and come back several times, and have only gotten serious now. (Thus the most recent LD was last night =) But what I'm saying is if you stick worth it it is an amazing feeling, I hope you have better luck than I did.
