      Almost a First

I almost had my first lucid dream. I won't go into too much detail.

Basically, I was at school sitting in class. There was an announcement on the PA, we were celebrating something. Then I remembered what it was about, it was summer vacation. Then I thought, "Wait, why are we having school in the middle of summer?" I started to work out the schedule in my head, after alot of what's and waits, I realized I was dreaming. I did a reality check by pinching my nose, which failed. But the excitement got to me and I woke up. I actually managed to pull myself back in while halfway between waking and sleep, still woke up in the end, though.

      Alright, one step further.

Good job, man! Almost there. Some people would even consider that as a lucid dream, since you actually knew that you were dreaming.

You did have a lucid dream! The definition of a lucid dream is that you know you're dreaming while you're in the dream. It doesn't matter if you woke up or forgot that it was a dream a few seconds later, it was still a lucid dream. It's pretty common for people to wake up right away from their first lucid dream. You even managed to almost re-enter the dream, which is excellent. Congrats, and welcome to Dream Views! =)

Edit: -stares at Xel- I'm not quite sure what to say...

Like I said in chat with these guys:

Getting excited is not waking you up, it's the belief that you will wake up due to being excited.

You should be able to get excited in a lucid without waking up, I mean, how else are you supposed to have fun?

Anyways, congrats on the first lucid! Here's to many more!

Good job man, and keep at it. Eventually that "OMG I'M DREAMING!" excitement will lower and you'll be able to maintain it...until you start getting "OMG I'M FLYING" excitement and wake up hahah. gl to you

Why should getting excited wake you up? Maybe, it's the belief that you will wake up when you get too excited.

Hell, I practically jump for joy in my lucids. No problem here.

Or maybe you wake up because you're detaching yourself from your dream... Or is that also all in your head?

I'm not too sure what you mean by that.

If you mean thinking about real life while in a dream, that should be no problem either.

I heard that if you ignore the dream you risk waking up. It's like the opposite of stabilizing by observing your surroundings. So in this case when you get excited you're so caught up in being lucid that you forget to stabilize.

That's blasphemy! That would mean that everytime you closed your eyes in dreams, you would wake up, which doesn't happen. Remember to take you what you hear with a grain of salt.

The truth is, you shouldn't have to wake up unless: you want to, there is an external interruption, or the dream just fades on its own.

Go ahead and get caught up in being lucid! It's supposed to be FUN!

I think I read that in EWOLD.

Well then, I guess my dreams fade on their own a lot. =P
