      Intro/IrisRavenstar

      Hi Everyone,

I'm Iris, and I'm new here! I have a lot of natural lucid dreams, but never have tried to incubate them or control them, as they usually seem to be PSI or psychic dreams, and I'm always afraid of losing the message if I muck about with them. My absolute favorite aspect of dreamwork is interpretation, so I was happy to see you also have an interpretation area. I also get a lot of health advisories and guidance from my dreams, and a great many precognitive dreams, all kinds of stuff, really.

I live in Connecticut, was born in Rhode Island, and also spent a lot of time living in various other parts of the U.S. with my ex-husband who was career Navy. So I'm pretty familiar with a lot of places.

Oh, and I'm old now, being formally a grandmother with my first biological grandchild being just two months old today. I also have an assortment of step and adopted grandchildren, who seem to move in and out of my life as my sons get divorced and remarried.

Other interests of mine are: Gnostic Christianity, Native American Spirituality, Making Jewelry and Other Crafts, Nature Gardening, Nutritional and Herbal Healing, Aromatherapy, Reiki, Guitar and Drum, Poetry from Dreams, and probably more that aren't coming to me at the moment. I have way too many interests to keep up with sometimes! Love reading and movies too!

I look forward to getting to know you all!

      Haven't we met before...? ;-)

Hello IrisRavenstar! You commented on a post I wrote over at the Dream Central forum a couple of days ago.

(You sent me the link to a site that debunked that whole "Planet X" story. Thanks for that... I had taken that woman's story with a boulder-sized grain of salt but it was nice to see a site that offered some real science to address those claims.)

It's lovely to see you here, too!

BTW, you say you're heavily into dream interpretation -- are there any sites you recommend for learning more on the subject?

Thanks, and looking forward to seeing you around!

      Thanks for the welcome, Sugarglider!

I'm not at all sure I want to learn to control them, you see, as I am afraid of losing something in the process. I do enjoy them though!

I love your shifting letters sig!

      Thanks lucid dream girl!

Oh, yes, I'm glad you checked it out, not that it's stopped the poster from ranting on every extremist idea out there. I just closed my link to that site. It gets a bit too strange too often for my taste.

I don't know any good sites for learning about dream interpretation, actually. The IASD (International Association for the Study of Dreams) is wonderful in most areas of dreamwork, but they don't allow interpretation on their sites, because they feel it's not possible to moderate it properly on the internet. It's hard to find places that are good for interpretation, as so many have the kind of nonsense with Planet X, or they're run by people who try to charge a fee to remove an evil spirit entity if you have a nightmare, or they're all caught up in End Times prophecy to the point where nothing else gets through.

I was kind of blasted awake by my dreams in 1986, and pretty much told to learn the language of symbol. I've been working on it ever since. My favorite book for that is _An Illustrated Encyclopaedia of Traditional Symbols_ by J. C. Cooper, which lists symbols by cultural and religious differences, and is very useful, imo. I like it better than books that are labelled as dream dictionaries. But I also find dreams chock full of puns and other kinds of wordplay, and acting out common figures of speech. I use a standard Webster's Dictionary a lot just to check alternate meanings for words that appear as symbols, as often it means another meaning altogether than the obvious one. It's a matter of practice and patience, and learning as well your own personal symbols and associations, which you won't find in any book!

I don't know if that helps you! The best thing, imo, is to get involved in *doing* it, and over time, your understanding of it grows. It's not something to be learned overnight.

      All best!
