mantras (autosuggestion, affirmations...) can be used as a form of intention setting where you hold one single purpose in your mind - i guess you could say they work by repetition and willing yourself to do something. anyone can do this...

if you're trying to wake up to use an induction technique you could think about the time you want to get up and imagine that passage of time. you could also drink water before bed so you have to get up early in the morning. i'm able to get up every morning at 3 am without trying, so it's also a matter of time until your body gets used to this.
