      Hey, Just introducing myself.

hey what's up. i've had this website bookmarked for a while but never joined the forums. I've known about lucid dreaming for many years but never really trained myself to try. I always wanted have one but never was able to, mainly because lack of practise or whatnot. But today I finally had one and I decided to come sign up for the forum and further pursue lucid dreaming because i found it so amazing. i'll give you guys a brief overview of what happened.

today i had an exam at 11:30am so i went to the exam and was abck at my house by 12:30. i immediately went back to sleep. i'm not sure how long i was asleep but at one point i awoke to a dream within a dream. i was lieing in my bed and opened my eyes and saw figures surrounding me. this has happened before on many times but before i just get scared and open my eyes for real and wake up. but this time right away i was like wait i'm dreaming. so i opened my eyes again and saw more figures surrounding me. i then closed my eyes again and plotted what to do. i then opened my eyes for a third time and immediately jumped outta bed and started swinging at all the figures around me. it felt like i was actually hitting a person or something but then the figures disappeared. i then turned around flicked the light switch two or three times to make sure i was dreaming. no lights so i knew i was lucid. the dream pretty much consisted of me walking and flying around my neighbourhood. the only difference was it wasnt exactly my neighbourhood. the houses were placed differently and walls and building at my university were different. however the parking lots and the bridge to the usa. were the same. the dream ended by me trying to fly straight up into the sky i hit a point where i felt like i couldnt go any further and then i woke up.

two interesting things i found in the dream were, when i tried to fly around my neighbourhood i found it difficult to get height and i flew into a couple walls (that dont really exist on campus). and also when i flew straight up towards the stars i felt like my fear of heights was kicking in, i was too scared to look down and i felt fear in my stomach.

so now i'm here to learn more on how to become lucid more often and learn more about what my dreams mean.

Hamha, decifer! Glad you finally decided to join! Welcome, welcome!

That's cool that you've already got your heels dug into lucidity. I think your "dream within a dream" might be a "false awakening" -- not sure, but that's what it sounds like.

If you continue to have these sorts of flying dreams, try telling yourself not to be afraid of heights, so when you take off, you can really soar!

      See you around!

By the way, just call me Ramu.

      hey ramu,

i think it was a false awakening, i only know what those are from the movie waking life. but i can remember having had them twice, well three times including this ld. the first time i think i was between 6-8 because i shared a bunkbed with my brother and i had the top bunk. but anyways, i had a flase awakening and i saw skeletons and other weird things hanging around my top bunk just staring at me and it freaked me out cause i was so young and i started screaming and woke up and my mom came running in. the next time i remember having a flase awakening was just over a month ago, i was sleeping at my girlfriends house opened my eyes and i saw figures around me except they were people i knew but there eyes looked really evil, i got freaked out and woke up. however, third time is a charm and i realized i was sleeping and was able to ld.

      thanks for the warm welcome,
      decifer

Hey there decifer - Welcome to DreamViews

Sounds like a false awakening to me
You know that those are useful as dreamsigns, right? Look into the tutorials if you have no idea what I'm on about...

About the flying - it takes some practice. I have the same problem, to this day.
Are you at all asthmatic by the way? It was suggested by a member that it seems to cause difficulty with flying

Anway, good to see you're off to a great start - enjoy the site

      False awakenings

      Hi

reading about your false awakening as a child reminded me of one i had (I had totally forgotten it!) I dreamnt a spider had made its nest on my face and i woke up and felt the furry nest on my cheek and i screamed and screamed until my mother came in the room, at which point i must have really woken up as there wasn't anything on my face and my mother had to rock me back to sleep.

thought i would share it as it seemed so similar to yours

wow! lisa that would have scared me to the point of awakening. i'm aracnaphobic i absolutely hate spiders. and placebo, thanks for the warm welcome. to answer your question no i'm not asthmatic never had problems breathing, i'm actually a really deep breather. i remember years ago when first reading about lucid dreams, i read something that flying in lucid dreams takes a bit of practise. once i'm done final exams for the semester i'm gonna spend alot of my christmas break reading the tutorials on this website and hopefully learn alot more.
