Arrow Hello and a couple of questions

Hey everybody, my name is Julia and I'm 15. I came across this site when I was looking to see if it was possible to control my dreams, and I found much more than what I was asking for.
I have two questions about controlling my dreams, though:

      1) It takes me a long time to get to sleep: between 30-45 minutes. Will this affect lucid dreaming? I do get insomnia sometimes, but then it takes me hours to get to sleep.

      2) When I'm laying in bed waiting for sleep, I almost always am thinking of something. I guess it's kind of like dreaming, except that I know that I'm fully conscious and as soon as I open my eyes the "dream" ends, although I can pick up where I left off. After I clear my mind, I usually get to sleep after a bit. Is this normal?

Having a hard time falling asleep shouldn't matter too much. It should just give you extra time to give yourself autosuggestions before you fall asleep. Trying to do something like WILD or MILD might make your insomnia worse. You do these sorts of meditations in the middle of the night, after sleeping for a few hours. Do you normally wake up in the middle of the night? Do you have a hard time falling back to sleep at that time?

Learning how to better control your sleep might help you. All the different WILD guides are just different ways of learning to fall asleep. Relaxation techniques, visualization tricks, and such. Basically, with a little practice, you can learn to fall asleep exactly when and how you want.

Welcome julia! No, taking a long time to fall asleep should not affect lucid dreaming because you still dream. In a way it might actually help lucid dreaming because it gives you a longer time to think about it before you fall asleep. Those "dreams" of yours are probably just hypnagogic imagery and is completely normal. If you can have see the hypnagogic imagery after awakening from a dream in the middle of the night you could probably wild very easily. I think you should give that a try.

you should also check out the tutorial section. Happy dreaming and good luck.

      Heyy,
      just another question..

Right before I go to sleep I like think of things that have happened in my day, usually until I fall asleep.

Would this make trying for an LD harder or easier?

This shouldn't make lding harder but thinking about lding while falling asleep should make it easier. If you think about RCS you did during the day while falling asleep lding should be easier.

I'm much like Julia and Gemetria. It often takes me 30 minutes to an hour and a half to fall asleep. I also constantly think. It's one of my few quiet times. However, I'm a natural Ld'er. I'm not sure if it's because of this that I have problems WILD'ing. If you find this is a case, work on dream recall, reality checking, and auto-suggestion. Most of my lucids are simple DILD's. I kind of like these because they're a nice little surprise. Then DEILD. It's a form of WILD, but you do it instantaneously after waking up. It's possible to chain 3 or 4 of these in a row. And then, (when I was still in the habit of doing an RC after I woke up) I would catch probably one FA every couple of days to a week.

Long story short, you should have no problem, but some methods may not work for you. Induction is like every other aspect of lucid dreaming. You just have to find your best technique.

Also, welcome to the sight. It's nice to see someone my age who doznt talk lik ths. or saiz lulz allot.

EDIT: Gemetria, I love your signature. Mudvayne is awesome.

      Thanks everybody!

Another problem: I realized that i enter sp pretty much every night when i fall asleep. but i've been trying to wild for the past couple of nights and when i wake up and go back to sleep, i sp but i kinda fall asleep and lose track of everything. Then in the morning I wake up remembering that i was planning on controlling my dream no matter what, and then my dream, but no memories of controlling it....if that makes any sense :/

And oniman7, I feel your pain. My classmates aLs0 tyYp3 LykK dIz and it annoys the crap outta me :]

      Heeh, yeah.

I couldn't fit all of it in though so I had to chop a bit off.

Why don't you try another, more easy technique to induce LD's (like MILD), instead of going for WILDs when you turn in, which is pretty much one of the hardest things you might try. That would solve your "problem".
