      DILD! ...It's a start.

Hey guys, I've been Lurking around here for about a month now and I have been following some tutorials for Dream Recall and Reality Checking, and that has been coming along nicely.

I am now at the point where I am remembering one or two dreams I've had during the night, and quite vividly also. I have tried Reality Checking, or at least thought of doing it before I fall asleep, but I never seem to do it. Is there a specific way I should go about checking? In my dream, I don't know I'm dreaming, so I don't know to reality check. Is there some way to fix this? Regardless, a couple nights ago I know for a fact I had my first DILD. I was in my dream (I can't remember everything, this was about a week ago), but I remember telling myself in my dream, "Ok, this is a dream, I know I am dreaming." Shortly after that I opened my eyes to see my ceiling above me... but I have made progress and I am really excited about that.

There really is no point to this story, I just needed to tell someone. I guess my question from here is; What now? Should I keep doing dream recognition and reality checks? Where is the point, if there is one, when I should move on, and what should I move on to? Sorry I am a complete noob at this. Advise would be appreciated.

      Thanks in advance,
      Koola1d

Welcome to Dream Views Koola1d. It sounds like you're doing pretty well. You should defiantly keep doing reality checks. Just remember to really focus and pay attention to them when you do them. Sometimes it takes a while before you find success, so just hang in there and keep practicing. I suppose a next step so to speak would be after you are pretty good at inducing lucid dreams. When that happens you might work on aspects of dream control. If after a while you find that a particular technique just isn't working out for you just try a different one. Here is a list of techniques for easy reference. http://www.dreamviews.com/community/...ad.php?t=69883 You seem to be on the right path to me, but if you have any more questions please do not hesitate to ask.

      to dreamviews!

Ooh, excellent memory recall. I can only wish mine was that good, but I'm learning.

When you reality check, do it constantly...all throughout the day...every time you think about it. If necessary, put sticky notes everywhere to remind yourself. The tricky part (and here's the catch) is remaining actively engaged in your checks. DON'T let it become another chore to do. Next to realizing you're lucid dreaming, RCing should be the most joyous part of your day.

Another thing to do when RCing is to question everything. Any time you see anything that is even a little bit out of the ordinary...RC it. Once you get in a steady rhythm of RCing, you'll be doing it all the time in your dreams (or so I've heard, anyway).

Also, whenever you wake up, do an RC. It is less than rare to have a false awakening--that is, when you dream you've woken up and lose lucidity.

When you get tired of crossing your fingers and hoping to get a DILD, you may want to try taking matters into your own hands and induce a lucid dream with WILDs, MILDs, etc. These are usually coupled with the WBTB method (see tutorials for more info...still don't know how to post links)

Okay, so just to recap: Stick with RCing...it'll take you far. There are multiple ways to induce an LD...keep trying until you find a method you like. If all else fails miserably, consider an EILD. Most importantly, though: keep trying, and you'll be lucid dreaming in no time!
