      Hello everyone, new member here.

I think I'll start by saying that I am rather new to deliberately inducing lucid dreams. I've had a number in the past, and I have very good dream recall (even though I've never written any dreams down in a journal - and I can remember dreams from years ago, too). I've done research on lucid dreaming, but I've never really put any effort into actually inducing one. Trying WILD when I go to bed has obviously yielded no results. That and being a newbie.

Thing is, though, this morning was quite interesting. I decided to try lucid dreaming again. So, I wake up about 5AM, and I'm disoriented because I managed to slightly overheat in bed. Zero dream recall therefore. After sorting that out, I try to induce a lucid dream. Laying on my back, something eventually begins to happen, but nervous, I break the cycle. I definitely heard something, like a whining noise, like when wind blows through a crack.

I share a bedroom with someone, and they got up later on, leaving the door to the landing open. The light is always on in the hallway downstairs, so it creeps up. I'm attempting a lucid dream again at this point. I seem to lose some awareness, and then my body feels so heavy and tingly. Somewhat unnerving. I notice it's sleep paralysis. Oh, and not to mention I'm 'looking' at the bed across from me, and my eyes seem to be 'open.' They aren't, but, wow... I hear the crackling of the pipes and radiators, what with the heating literally having come on recently, but the sound is louder. I even banged on the wall for someone to turn off their alarm. Then, like I said, I break it off.

I broke the cycle because the sleep paralysis was scary. I've only ever had it in the past when waking up from bad dreams, in which case a malevolent entity, a black-form that resembles a Human shape, comes for me - or when I was young, waking up and finding my legs as if they were crossed over, unable to move them.

Now, a while later, it happens again. I break the cycle again, of course. I decide to give it a rest and just save what is left of my sleep time. I had had a pretty unsatisfying sleep, what with overheating, and didn't want to keep myself awake too long. However, a number of times my body just refused to let my mind go first! I eventually got to sleep proper, and have some great dream recall. But, sheesh! I had to move in bed, toss and turn, to try to sleep normally.

It did seem a little too successful if you ask me. Granted, I need to get used to the sleep paralysis, but it's very encouraging and also strange. I think it should have been harder, a lot harder - especially when I had trouble even getting to sleep normally. I did use the reverse blinking technique as part of it, although not sure how it figures into it for me. It probably kept me aware enough prior to my body falling asleep.

      That's my intro for now.

Welcome to Dreamviews! I have found that once you hit SP upon falling asleep, it is difficult to fall asleep normally. When I was younger (before I knew what SP was), it used to freak me out pretty good. I remember some nights I would hit SP every time I tried to fall asleep within that hour span. I usually had to physically get up for a several minutes and go to sleep somewhere else. Just remember that nothing can harm you in SP. It helps me sometimes to think over and over to myself, "Its all fake...I can't be harmed" I admit, it takes a bit to get used the hallucinations, but with experience and practice, it will get easier and easier to handle. Good Luck in your future efforts!

Thanks. I'm going to try again in the morning, after a good night of sleep. About 7AM or so, perhaps. What with the clocks going back, I have a nice cushion just in case it takes a bit of time. What I do not plan to do is focus on SP. I've done some more reading, and it might be best to focus on what I might want to do in any case I get an LD, and to actively imagine myself physically moving around just in case I hit SP. It might have been that I was placing far too much emphasis on it, which didn't help.

I only plan to do WBTB/WILD in the morning, usually closer to when it is going to be light, or when people have been getting up. Makes me feel more secure, just in case any negative hallucinations occur. Since none did this morning, and I once managed SP back in June, curled up in a chair downstairs, late morning, and nothing happened then, I figure, and *TOUCH WOOD*, that those negative SP experiences, with malevolent figures, usually happen for me after bad dreams. Although once it didn't happen, just SP - I was being had by a zombie...kept missing with a double-barreled shotgun and ran out of ammo! The dream faded as it grappeled with me, I appeared to be in bed in the dark, had the tingly sensation. And after I managed to break free of the SP, I realised what I *could* have done. I did continue imagining beating the zombie up and winning the struggle...coulda stayed calm, in SP, and done it there. Might have helped.

I might imagine any SP in context, though, from now on. Not as being paralysed, but maybe I'm being restrained by some villain or something. And about to meet my fate...LOL (NOTHING rude, sorry to dash yer hopes).

I will keep my mind off SP, though, in the morning. Try to skip it by keeping in my normal position, moving as I usually do, that sort of thing. And keeping my mind aware.

It might be of benefit to tempt SP and the unpleasentness, because if I could somehow overcome that, the next time I have a bad dream and end up waking to a malevolent entity, I can deal with it better. Eliminating fear would be handy.

Well, tried again this morning, about an hour or so before I was to get up normally (let's be honest...I get up anywhere between 9:15am-9:45am, even though I have plenty of sleep and people keep telling me to get up ).

I successfully kept reaching SP, or just before. I'm just nervous at the moment, even though I've decided to only try late in my sleep cycle when people are getting up and it is getting light, to temper any fear of negative HH encounters. The main thing I noticed before hitting SP today was that, if I was imagining anything, it would begin to change by itself, I seemed to lose some control and awareness. However, I could still tell I was reaching SP, so I figure I lose some awareness in the process, but it's only temporary, the SP seems to jolt me out of that.

I don't think I really put much effort beyond the first SP attempt, though, so, yeah...if I hit it once, I'm gonna hit it multiple times afterwards too. Just gotta make sure I don't want to go to sleep normally . If I do, I shouldn't bother those mornings. Mind you, I get more than enough sleep, so an hour out most mornings *might* be acceptable collateral.

Shame I'm so nervous at the moment. Need to take the advantage of the lighter mornings while they last now that the clocks have been turned back. I do look forward to when the clocks go forward, especially when the mornings will be lighter and for quite a bit longer than they will be right at this time of year.
