      Hallo thar.

I'm Ebullere. I enjoy a variety of creative pursuits, am socially awkward as hell, and nary a meal goes by in my life without some sort of cheese being involved.

I'm new to both these forums and to lucid dreaming. Haven't had a lucid dream since childhood. In recent years I've barely dreamed at all, or at least have rarely remembered it in the morning, but I've noticed that the more I think about dreaming the more I dream. And so, I hope, the more I think about lucid dreaming the more I'll lucidly dream. I've been keeping a pretty much lifelong dream journal (as a kid I had very memorable recurring nightmares), but because I've had poor dream recall since, it's pretty short.

I hear silly voices when I'm between the awake and asleep states. Is that a thing and can it be helpful?

      Anyway, hi!

Welcome to Dream Views! I'm sure you'll love it here, like everyone else

It is a good idea to work on your dream recall, and that Dream Journal is a good start! When you wake up, try to remember absolutely anything about the dreams you had the night before. Usually one small detail leads to more details, and more details leads to better recall.

As for the voices, from what I know, (Sorry if this is wrong...) if you are talking about being in Sleep Paralysis, that you can manipulate these sounds. (Can't remember what it does though)

Anyways, have a blast on here, and sorry for not giving the answer you needed!

      Hey,

I don't think its very helpful personally, but I might be wrong. I've read that these voices are because of the brain activity when you enter the sleep state, you loose consciousness and fall into sleep. Your thoughts are active then so they might be creating the imaginary voices.

      Good Luck

I hear voices when I'm at the edge of sleep, also. It is pretty common. Any kind of familiarity with that borderline sleep/awake state is helpful to lucid dreaming.

      Welcome to Dreamviews, ebullere!

I think those voices are hypnagogic imagery. I think they let you know when you're about to fall asleep, though in your post you said you heard it in an awake state too, so I'm not sure.

      Anyway, enjoy your stay!

Did I? I don't really hear the voices in an awake state so much as think them. I have to be falling asleep to hear them auditorially.
