      Making the dream more intense

Hey guys, I've had 5 lucid dreams the past 2 nights but 4 of them were like... less than 5 seconds long. I would realize I was dreaming and a few seconds later wake up. The last one I had was last night, it seemed to last about 25 seconds. I had woken up from a LD and was mad that I couldn't make them last longer but I fell right back asleep into the same dream and did the nose pinch (which is the coolest feeling, ever.)

Anyways, I tried spinning and rubbing my hands at the same time which did help a little bit. I then was thinking "ok, passive control only...there's gonna be a really cool photo around the corner" (something I planned on doing) and it worked. I looked at it for a few seconds and then I went into another dream.

The problem is that I don't remember how I got out of my car --> spinning --> being around the corner of the picture--it wasn't a very high quality LD.

What should I try doing to get my dreams to last longer and be more...conscious?

"slow down", look around, don't be in a rush, tell yourself you ain't going anywhere and just examine the details

I think you're exactly right--I do rush. As soon as I'm lucid I start trying to do stuff and I really should just slow down. I guess it's because I'm excited that I'm dreaming.

I think I've been having so many lucid dreams because the only time I have them is when I fully convince myself that I'm going to have a lucid dream. For example, I still remember what I thought last night:

"Okay, I'm gonna have a lucid dream tonight. Ok..probably not because it's hard..or maybe I will I never know. It'll probably be really short and crappy but I'll still have one." Then I had one right away. Every time I think something like this I have lucid dreams (the first time I had 3 that night).

Well, yeah. You want to accomplish something, but not in a hurry. Take your time, and don't get frustrated or angry! Negative feelings has a negative effect on your dreams I think. (Though I don't have any evidence approving this)

Hey guys, I had an LD last night and after doing the nose pinch RC I didn't move at all and just examined where I was. I took a long time gathering my thoughts before I did anything, and rather than it turning out to be less than 20 seconds long like my others, it was about TEN minutes long! It gave me plenty of time to do anything I could think of, but I ran out of ideas.

I also found out that I understand the concept behind passive dream control, but in practice.... I can't do it too well. Changing night into day...took me about 5 minutes. Also the dream ended when for no reason an alaskan husky charged me and bit my leg. I was trying to think of ways to control the dream to get around it but I didn't have time. What should I do if something like that happens?

Ten minutes is a pretty long lucid dream for a beginner, so you should be happy you got that far. However you can extend them even more by trying not to get too excited- this is probably why you woke up when a husky charged at you (not that I blame you). Just tell yourself it's not real and face whatever is attacking you without fear. You can have a lot of fun by fighting it as if you're a character in a kid's cartoon, or you can take the advice of Dr. Stephen Laberge and try to make friends with whatever is attacking you.

Also, be vigilant in your watch for false awakenings, you can double or triple your time in a lucid dream by doing so.
