      Just before going to sleep

Right now i'm working on dream recall. Does everybody lay in complete silence? the reason i ask is because it is extremely difficult for me to sleep without the aid of music. i was just wondering if something like music can effect LD.

last night was my first attempt with a dream journal. i avoided letting my mind wonder(as this site says) and focused on telling myself that remembering this dream was important but every time i focused on LD i got too excited and could not sleep.

      First off !

Are you asking for a technique on Dream recall or Lucid dreaming because dream recall doesn't take much technique before bed. The only thing you may want to do before bed is maybe to tell yourself a few times that you will remember your dreams. Other than that most of the technique is when you wake up. What works for me is to lay there after you woke up with your eyes closed still and slowly backtrack through your dreams and remember what happened. Keep going through your dreams over and over until they are set into your mind and can write them down without forgetting them.

And yes you can listen to music while going to bed. This won't effect you at all, and may even help you lucid dream if the music transfers over to your dreams, you can use it as a sign that you are dreaming.

      Welcome to Dreamviews!

I cannot sleep in silence at all. I absolutely NEED to have a fan or some other white noise going to sleep. Maybe it's from many years of living in apartments, but I've found that the bonus is that the white noise really helps along the hypnogagic hallucinations, which can lead to WILDS (wake initated lucid dreams).
