Welcome to DV, Trish. I think the biggest thing I can recommend to you starting out is to start keeping a dream journal. This will help with your dream recall and ensure that you remember future lucid dreams, as well as helping you find dreamsigns, which can be used to help identify the dream state and so help you become lucid.

Lucid dreaming is indeed amazing for inspiration! I have gotten inspiration for my writing, web design, and the occasional drawing (though I can't draw for crap) from dreams both lucid and not. What kind of art do you practice?
