      Giving up Marijuana

I am debating quitting my smoking habit, which I believe is inhibiting my REM cycle. (After a little bit of reading online)
I've been a smoker for quite a long time, but I am certain that Lucid Dreaming would be more beneficial and enjoyable.

      Any feedback on this?
I recall a chemical that is released less while under the influence, forget the name though... starts with an 'M'.

Melatonin. And yes, I'd suggest giving it up. Drugs in dreams are much better, anyways.

Well then I guess I'll have to try that out.
Do you have any idea how long it takes for the side effect of smoking to ware off?

I am actually interested in doing much more than drugs in my dreams, but I'm sure that will come up.

How far can you bend time, such as what is the contrast between real time and dream time?

Hm, I know this might sound biased, but smoking marijuana is never appropriate. I advice you to give it up, and rather focus on other means of enjoyment - like lucid dreams - where you can enjoy make believe drugs instead of harmful, real ones.

Thats okay, you don't sound biased at all. You have your opinion, and because it differs from mine that makes it valuable.
I have quit before, but I started smoking a few months ago.
I think this will be my last bag; thanks for the feed back. I look forward to speaking to you all later

i'v had countless lucids since i started smoking a year ago. it moves your REM cycle to around the 7-10 hour mark or so it does for me anyways. i don't even remember most dreams till then. it's all about figuring out your sleeping habits. you can WILD pretty well but its hard to concentrate while shifting from awake to asleep.

but heres the thing it does impair recall a little,i remember before i started smoking i could remember vivid dreams as clear as day so much more often.
im prob going to take a T Break myself if not just for the improvement of recall after just 3-4 days

anyways what im trying to say is, you can smoke mary and still lucid dream easyily.
you just have to keep trying to figure what works for YOU

hi there having smoked stupid amounts of weed as u can see from my profile picture of the nice juicy g-13 plant ( was mostly smoking nice potent stuff aswell ) for about 8-9 years and it was daily use and alot like 30-40 bongs per day more on weekends... i found lytrally the day i didnt smoke any ..that night i had much better dream recall...and since then its just been getting better..longer dreams more vivid...only a couple lucid one's .... i know ganja messed my lucid dreams up or my recall anyway

because up untill about 13years old id have lucid dreams alot like most nights

its just getting my skill back thats hard lol but i did find that 90% ill become lucid during a nightmare... i mean ive had sum crazy dreams and i think how could i not know that was a dream ?? even last night was mad and still no lucidity

its just great to have my recall back thou giving up will definatly help ...i had a little trouble to get to sleep at first but now its all good

good luck and hope this helps

But it DID conquer my Insomnia. It stopped a psychosis in me once. How is that inappropriate? Will you speak for yourself, cause in my experience Cannabis is very usefull and very appropriate?

You know what Tobi? You know the pros and cons of Cannabis, no need to ask for a supportive opinion of others; You can make that choice without us. Use the facts known about Marijuana(Note the FACTS, not the abundant myths and lies) and combine them with your subjective personal experience.

This is YOUR decision Tobi. Take it. Trust your own judgement.
It shouldn't remotely matter to you what we think, cause you have your own judgement of Cannabis. You experience Cannabis in a Unique way, different from how other's experience it or more Pathetic: judgement on Cannabis by people who've never taken it.
And the decision will have consequences to YOUR life, so trust your own judgement. You know better than anyone of us.

I will have to both agree and disagree with you SKA.
The decision has already been made though, all I wanted was to hear if it had worked for any others.

Im with ya! Ive just quit smoking in order to get my recall up. and i think,
im also not yet becoming lucid becouse of the smoking. I do my RC,
or i just know that i'm dreaming, and then continiu the story line.
I might change it a bit, to say it freudian, usely id takes over, becomes cheeky
But what i really want to do, is actualy a little and then go flying
I think it is becouse of the weed. It makes my thoughts just go there own way.
Its what i liked about it to in day time, nice to write as its inspirational.
just drifting off, but i kinda loose contiusness. I drift off as i follow a script.
it all goes atomaticly when im stoned, for example, done the diches so many times i
could do it with my eyes closed, and so i pay no attetion, i day dream.
After i stopped smoking for a while on vakantion i noticed i became sharper. And so i'll have to quit.
I smoked for free and so it went up to like 2 grams a day.
Tho the effects of weed are differant for every one, and there is always an exception to the rule.
It seems that it does not help attaining lucidety, or just remembering.
Now there might be some here that smoke and dream with out any problem.
but it seems the majorety of us has trouble with it.
      and so im quiting to.

P.S. it takes 2 days for the REM cycle to return to normal after smoking.

Thank you for answering my question!
      2 days-
Well I am finishing off my bag today; so tomorrow I will be starting the count, I will see how accurate your advice is, or if it ends up to also be different for everyone.

I had my first lucid dream during the day. I can usually remember 99% of my dreams when I take a nap. Short or long..

And 'Lucidness'. Do you have some hate towards pot? Seems like you are really against it. It's just a plant. Who cares if it's illegal, So is speeding. It's our lives..

Not trying to offend you or anything. I just don't like how people assume it's like every other bad drug out there

i think that it's great that you're quitting. in my personal experience it's best if you take breaks from MJ every so often to help you get a 'larger perspective' on things, or if you've got exams or something like that in the near future -- especially if you are/were a heavy smoker.

one suggestion: definitely record your dreams/recall etc to confirm that the weed was in fact inhibiting your lucid dreaming experience/REM, just to be scientific about it (and just in case it isn't the main cause).

i would imagine that engaging in MJ use say every weekend or so would not have a significant effect on dreaming/REM during the week, although it's likely that you'd do most of your sleeping/dreaming over the weekend. either way i don't know how often you used previously

I didn't have it ALL the time, but I usually didn't go a week without it, when I had it I smoked three to four times a day; but only after the hour of 6pm.
I used to be a very very heavy smoker, that last pattern I gave you is incredibly light compared to how I used to smoke.

Yes I have been keeping a dream journal and I can already see great progress. There are things I will never be able to do in this world; so dreaming is much more important to me. I don't care about being high if I have the option of holding hands with myself while we shoot lasers out of our eyes... destroying the planet... Only to rebuild it... as my goals list ^_^

It's different for me.. I don't smoke pot or do drugs when I'm bored. I use it as a fun social event with friends. We have shit tons of fun, last time we got blazed and had a firework show. Fucking amazing.

And if you took 5 minutes of your day, and researched the history of marijuana... you would know it was FALSLY illegalized! Do your research man.. you sound like my fucking mom, Lucidness.

But anyway, we got horribly off topic, sorta.

Oh yea, and everytime I went sober for a couple of weeks in the summer when I smoked heavily, I did see a big change in dream recall, and in dreams in general.

Pleas stay on topic everyone. This isn't a thread to discuss the morality/legality/history behind smoking weed, or any other drug for that matter. Thanks.

I smoke everyday and have for the past couple years and I have no problem with recall. You just have to practice and build-up your recall. It doesn't have to be a choice between Pot or LDing, but that is just my "two cents." Either way, good luck to you and I hope it works out for ya!

Ditto man. You can still build up your recall if you smoke. I do a good 4 days a week and mine is still good. With enough practice I should be around the problem completely.

It's your choice though and good luck with whatever you choose.

Sorry I have been gone for so long guys; progress has been good. Although still no lucidity, I am getting much better at dream recall. Quite the trip reading about my dreams. I often forget about them by noon, so I re-read them quite frequently.

I'm back though; I was just over at my friends house for about two weeks.

My recall came back with a vengence once I quit as well. Prior to quitting I thought the vividity would suffer, but it really hasn't. I noticed the benefits even before I was able to pass a drug test...so I hope you get what you're looking for.

I noticed things that were inconsistent with waking reality much easier and RC'ed much more reliably than in other dreams where my body was much more tired. Even though the inconsistencies were more subtle, my inclination to see them as abnormal seemed to be heightened.

      Good luck with your goals!
