      Very new :)

Hi guys.. I just found out about Lucid dreaming today

I am wondering, the FIRST thing you need to do to even start learning how to induce Lucid Dreaming, that is Dream Recall?

So, if I want to learn, I have to learn Dream Recall, correct?

That would require waking up around every 90 minutes or so, during a REM period?

Or do I just try and remember my dreams when I wake up in the morning?

      Help appreciated, tyvm, Mondo.

Yes recall would be the best thing but you don't need to wake up in the night. The mere intention to remember your dreams does it and when you wake up, lay on your back still with your eyes closed. Barely anyone actually wakes up 5 times every night and that also isn't very good for your health. The first day I wanted to remember my dreams, I did and the same happened the day after and after that and so on.

      Welcome!

If you tell yourself every night as you go to sleep that, "I want to wake up after each dream and remember my dreams" you might get off to a good start.

I don't think you need to remember dreams from every REM period to work on dream recall (though, I think it would be awesome if I could do that). My understanding is that we wake up after most anyway, but actually forget this - it's often an awakening of mere moments.

      Have fun with your dreaming.

      Welcome, Mondo!
If you want to experience a lucid dream then I suggest you start writing down what dreams you've had at a regular basis. Make a habit out of it, or something you associate with peace and calm. I know it's not quite as effective as scribbling down dreams immediately, but I find it to be quite relaxing and enjoyful.

      Good luck, though!

      Welcome!

You are correct, you need to work on your dream recall ASAP. But no, you do not have to wake up every 90 minutes during an REM period, but if that is how you want to, then by all means go ahead. Just write down any segments from dreams, or whole dreams.

      Best of luck!

So, I had a dream last night, but I can only remember one thing.

I was playing Heroes of Newerth, and I said, Solo mid or I feed.

I wrote that down in the morning.

As time goes on, will I get better at dream recall?

      Thanks, Mondo.

to DVs Mondo! I too just recently found out about LDing...1 week or two ago, and that's when I joined these forums. I have had an 'ok' dream recall...a few a week. But this isn't good enough for lucid dreaming...(you still can, but you may have a lucid dream and not remember it...that would suck ...but you wouldn't know). Well the night I read about lucid dreaming, I repeated a few mantras. Try repeating as you go to bed: "I will remember my dreams", "I will become lucid in my dreams", or "I will recognise I am dreaming while dreaming, and will become lucid." When I did that the first night, I remember 5 dreams that night! Four of them were the same short nightmare repeated four times throughout the night, which I became lucid in all 4 times near the end of the nightmare! The other one was a good, fun, long dream, but did not become lucid

So, try repeating a few mantras as you go to bed. Oh, and throughout the day I did reality checks. I asked myself throughout the day if I was dreaming or not(ask it seriously...if you say "duh, I am awake", you will do that while dreaming), and do a few reality checks. Common ones are to plug your nose and try and breathe in. If you can, you are dreaming! Another is to look at text or a digital watch(analog won't work), and look at the text, look away for a few seconds. And look back and if the text is the same, try to change it(think of different text while looking at it...). If it changes, you are most likely dreaming!

      Hope this helps.

To freakyDreamer, I know that dream recall is essential (I am practicing with it too) but with your first lucid dream don't you think you would remember it vividly regardless? Because you'd wake up out of it (as you do with all dreams) and even if you have a hazy recall with regular dreams you'd still be excited about what you just did.

When you wake up, stay still and try to recall memories. You get better after time and should be recalling ~20 dreams a night week.
      Working on: Daily awareness.
Lucid Task: Reverse the flow of a waterfall and ride up it.

Of course you will! This is kinda the purpose of keeping a dream journal.

Either one, although trying to remember them in the morning is better for your sleep. I'd say waking up every 90 minutes is easy because it interrupts your dreams, making them easier to remember. Waking up and remembering works well too, but it takes longer to remember them. Oh, and if you wake up and you think you can't remember your dreams, then THAT'S NOT TRUE.
I woke up with a totally blank mind this morning, and I say, "Damn, I won't be able to remember them! That's the 3rd time this week!" But sure enough, 30 minutes later, 3 lengthy dreams hit me right in the face. You just have to put your mind to it
      Happy travelings~
