Maybe not a life totem, but they could be a journey totem(short term, guides) Here's a brief description of the symbolisom of the rabbit.

RABBIT - Releasing fear, overcoming the past, resolution to change. With baby bunnies - fertility, creativity often directly pertaining to conception. If drawn out of a magician's hat - miracles, sudden resolution to a difficult problem.

Hmm. That's very interesting. Too bad I don't remember more of the dream; that would help clarify. :/
