It might be best not to try too much in your first few lucid dreams. Just wander around and check out your dreamscape. Look at flowers, houses, people, go swimming, FLY. Keep moving and see what's around you, and you should stay lucid longer, plus there's so much cool stuff going on in a lucid dream just to enjoy the view.
As for trying to attempt specific things in lucid dreams like finding a dream guide or manipulating my surroundings, I find that if I'm standing around thinking about what I want to do, I start to wake up. So if you really want to do something like that, PLAN IN ADVANCE, before you go to sleep. Then you can remember it immediately when you become lucid and attempt to do it right away.
