      New and pleased :)

      Hello!

I'm Tabby, and I just found this site yesterday (it was linked from an article on digg regarding dreams). I've always found myself to be... well, an apt dreamer. When I'm not stressed out, I have good dream recall (usually 2/night but sometimes more) and I tend to be the sort of person to "take control" in dreams. By which I mean, I don't have many nightmares because they usually turn to something of an adventure, which isn't scary.

But... lucid dreaming had thus far been out of my grasp. For whatever reason, my dreams are tricky, and they like to convince me that I'm not dreaming. On several occasions I've questioned whether I was dreaming, like "Hey... that doesn't quite make sense," or "I'm pretty sure physics doesn't allow this" but someone or something in my dream has specifically ruled out my question, such as a person giving me (a completely garbled) explanation for the phenomenon, which I am apparently perfectly happy to accept.

Yesterday I spent a few hours reading over the site, wikipedia entry for LD, etc. and resolved that I was going to make it happen! I also have a friend who has crazy awesome lucid dreams every night (and has since he was a kid), and he was very encouraging.

Well, this morning I did in fact manage to have (an extremely short) lucid dream! I had already awoken to my b/f's alarm and went back to sleep. I dreamed that I woke up and the sky outside was stormy (the tornado/apocalypse kind) but when I asked my bf if he was worried, he said he wasn't and that he'd closed the blinds (but not all the way) so that I wouldn't be either. Then I had a false awakening from that. The sky was normal, still pre-dawn. I suspected that I might still be dreaming, so I tried the pinch-your-nose-and-breathe-out trick, and found I could still breathe. Awesome!

All I was able to do was touch my bf's knee (which was beside me) and focus on making it feel really solid. For whatever reason, I guess I don't have much of a sense of touch in dreams, so everything felt fuzzy and indistinct. I think I was afraid that my hands would pass through anything I tried to touch. So I just willed his knee to feel knee-like... and it did. And then I woke up. XD

So there. My very first lucid dream. Perhaps extremely boring to read about, but I was pretty elated about it this morning.

I think I must have been on the verge of it for years. I feel really confident that now that I have these tools, I can definitely LD, and often. I just have to practice.

I love how the simplest of things, like touching someone's knee, can seem amazing in a lucid dream.

RobotButler: It's amazing because you are making the knee, and hand, and the feeling of touching....

I have vivid dreams but (aside from the steamy ones ) they don't really engage my senses aside from seeing and hearing. I don't often remember the feel of something, nor do I feel much pain. So the feeling of really willing something to be solid and present was pretty cool!!

      Thanks for the welcome
