      Anyone Else Experience This?

When trying to perform a WILD, I cannot fall asleep. I got to bed around 10:30 set my alarm for 5 and then get up for real at 7. But everynight I have tried to perform a WILD, I find myself laying completely still in bed for 2-3 hours. At around 1:30 I take out my earphones on my ipod and shut it down (my method to wake up is an alarm on my ipod). It feels as if i can't go to sleep for a good 5 hours before attempting a WILD. Does anyone have any ways to induce normal sleep until waking up 5 hours later? an mp3, technique, or anything will help. I listen to a 1 hour track as I fall asleep but it seems to keep me up.

P.S. Is it possible to become lucid when directly going to bed. Ex. I got to bed at 1030 and if possible i enter sleep paralysis and become lucid. Is that possible?

In answer to your second question, yes, it is possible. Though the chances of you actually getting into a dream from the waking state before REM are very, very low.

Perhaps listening to your track is what is keeping you awake? If not, try a mantra. "Clear my mind of all thoughts and go to sleep." Just repeat it to yourself as you lay in bed.

      Good luck

Yes it is possible, it is rare, but it is possible. Sometimes we are not getting enough REM at night, due to different reasons such as insomnia, just not being able to get enough sleep or other factors. When this happens regularly, our body decides to "compensate" for the lost REM hours, thus it goes into REM as soon as you fall asleep. This is how power naps (basically napping 4 times a day for half an hour instead of sleeping) work.

Wow, thank you for the quick replies. I think i will try the mantra and no music. I just had to cram for midterms and feel really tired so hopefully i will fall asleep fast. My alarm is set for 5 and i am feeling good about tonight and becoming Lucid. Hopefully I can do it, because it will be my first ever. I understand how you say its possible but i think i will stick with waking up very early in the morning. I dont really take naps. Thanks a lot I will post tomarrow what happens.

      Thanks.

      Thanks.
Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't recommend trying to WILD when you first go to bed, chances are it won't work. There is no doubt it has higher chances of working if you do it with WBTB (Wake back to bed, i.e setting your alarm to wake you up in the middle of the night and going back to bed)

Anyways good luck getting your first lucid , but remember don't give up, just keep trying
